Sorry for taking so long to reply, I haven't been here for a while. I fixed my problem by removing and sending the ABS unit to BBA remanufacturing in Taunton, MA. It cost about $150 and I have had no problem since. There is a known fault with the unit and these guys fix loads for all sorts of different cars. I found them on ebay would you believe. Check them out at www.bba-reman.com or call (866) 573-2740
Good luck!

I don't see a reply to it (other than yours now). Since that question was posted in 2003, I'm not sure a reply would be very helpful now anyway.
Feel free to post your own questions, though!

"computer reprogrammed"

I've been looking at 06-07 VDPs. Their Carfax reports almost always mention service reports early on that say, cryptically, "Computer reprogrammed" or "Computer reset." What's up with that? Is that a specific issue, covered under warranty?
Also, their A/C coolant gets recharged after a year?
I've read that Jaguars are more reliable now. Is that true, or advertising? Dare I return, after swearing them off a decade ago?

I own my second Jag. and they have been more of a Sunday car and I have never had any major problems. One thing of importance is changing the brake fluid and is most often over looked. If it is a used Jag. I would find the owner, and if it were a Doctor or
Lawyer I would back off or do some checking as few seem to have the time for proper upkeep .

Yes, I got a recall notice ('04 xjr) just last month. So they are covering it even if outr of warranty (105,000 miles- NO problems!) I would confirm that the quality is much better. 04 and newer benifited from the multi billion investment of Ford. My dad was a Jag/MG dealer in the 70's so I know well the quality issues of the past. Not so any more, I fully expect 200K + before my next jag.

Transmission problem?

I'm thinking about purchasing a 99 XJ8L with 70,000 miles on it. I took it for a test drive and noticed that sometimes the tranny would act like it was stuck in neutral then slam into gear when starting from a dead stop. The dealer had it checked and said that it was not a transmission problem because it was not throwing any codes out and said sometimes these things work themselves out or get worse. Any ideas?

When I try to run the diagnostics through the on-board VCM, it flashes "PAO FAIL". Anyone with a clue as to what this means? Thanks, Alan

We have a 98 and it did something similar. We were stopped, placed in reverse and then going forward it seized up. Placed in reverse, nothing moved. Eventually, it 'released' if that is that correct word. Our mechanic came, drove it around and said it was fine to drive. Had no real idea except to say sometimes the anti-lock brakes seize up...on any car. Wasn't concerned. As we have a warranty, I want it to 'break' so that it can be fixed. No one except for me is concerned about being away from home in it!! Has shown no further indication that it is trying to do it again.
