I would recommend that you actually SEE an installation first, since this is a relatively new service procedure. I've heard mixed reviews, and I'm still not clear about the special satellite antenna placement. My guess is that the piano black cover plate will integrate well with the existing piano black frame aroung the navigation unit, so that it will probably not be a problem. The Sirius unit is an FM modulation unit, so it ties into a preselected FM frequency and plays through the FM radio. Once the proper FM frequency is selected, then the satellite module can broadcast its own channels through that FM frequency. I'd wait until you can see one. Or, wait for XM, if that's your preference, although I do not know if it will become available.
I think the installation is likely to be very nice, however, but I'd sure want to see one first. It's not the $900 that I'd be worrying about . . . it's the Vanden Plas!

Actually, fenn, if I remember correctly, you have the XJR and normanbates1 has the Vanden Plas, isn't that right?
#2346 of 2806 Advise on buying my first jaguar - a '91 XJ6

This car looks to be in great shape inside and out. It has 87k mi on it. It is a sovereign model. My range rover service guy (for two years)is selling it and he states it is a good car. His shop is a jag shop that does rovers, too. He comes recommended to me from a true jag lover so I feel confident in his evaluation that the car is a good one. What exactly is a good 91 XJ6 like with 87k mi on it? I am apprehensive because jags have a bad rap as service hogs and money pits; even as elegant as they are... What should I ask about the car before I buy it? What trouble spots should I be aware of for this particular model and year? He is offering a warranty ... for extra money

Let me just address one issue. I find it hard to believe that any company offers a warranty on a 15 year old vehicle. Please advise the name of the company.

What kind of warranty? . . . coverage? duration? legally-binding? etc.
Price of warranty?
#2349 of 2806 A new visitor here
Feb 18, 2006 (4:29 pm)
This is my first visit to the Jag discussion group, and I must admit it's been an eye opener. I've always wanted one (in my youth had an XK120 fixed head coupe but blew that engine) and came within an eyelash of buying a pristine two year old Vanden Plas w/ 6,500 miles in "new condition" a year ago ... Jaguar certified and fully covered by warranty, locally owned and known. I chickened out ... had the age old worries about the "little things" that go wrong with Jags and have no patience when it comes to getting stuff fixed even when given a loaner and the dealership's five minutes from my office.
So I swam upstream and bought the first Infiniti M35 delivered here in Tucson ... I'm averse to buying the first off model. I've done nothing more than routine oil and filter changes in eleven months and the frequent visitors to the M35 discussion board are unanymous ... no problems. No issues.
I came here a year later still craving a Jag ... I think it's the most stunningly elegant looking car on the planet ... and decided to see what the owners have to say ... worth a great deal more than any commercial evaluations. As I read the posts here I find item after item that has Jag owners perplexed and annoyed, trips back and forth to the dealers, interior trim issues, turn signal issues, etc. (As an aside, one of my associates got an R a few months ago and the horn honked every time he used the turn signal.) So while I continue to drool when ogling an XJ8L or Vanden Plas my longing for that elusive Jag wanes.
It wouldn't be a fair comparison were it not for the fact that the Infiniti is MUCH less costly car ... mine fully equipped was $53K ... more on a parallel with the Lexus GS ... but I love the M and am reassured that I made the right decision.
Best of health and happiness to all of you. Bart

Most folks here would agree with that. The latest marketing campaign says it well . . . "gorgeous".

Hi: I would steer clear of this year and this XJ series. Jag had just introduced this redesign a year or so earlier, and it had various problems, not to speak of the recent takeover at the time by Ford. (Does the '91 you're looking at still have mineral oil brakes? They fixed that problem after a year or so and returned to normal brake fluid.) They also had various engine problems. The styling was widely regarded as a flop--particularly the square headlights on all but the cheapest version, and the square rear lenses. In fact, sales were so low that they were forced to redesign the car for 1995. They also fixed a bunch of design and engineering problems in 1995. P.S.: I was President of the Jaguar Club of New Orleans throughout the 1980's, bought my first Jaguar new in 1973 (the first XJ-12), and currently own three Jaguars including the 1973 XJ-12. My newest one is a 1995 XJ-R which I almost replaced with a 2005 version, but bought a 2005 Audi A8 instead.

This is my first post here...I am looking at a 97 xj6 with 76k miles on it for 13000.00. It's a one owner, emac cond.
What do you think of this car. What are the normal things that goes wrong with it...how muuch are the norema repairs, ....
What are the pros and cons on this car...any feedback would be helpful....
#2353 of 2806 1994 XJ6 Headlight problem
Feb 27, 2006 (2:28 pm)
My friend's 1994 XJ6 ( in excellent condition) has a headlight problem - you can't turn thrm off! - unless you disconnect the battery. 2 Jag mechanics have spent 4.5 hours trying to find the cause. Any possible solutions to this strange problem? Thanks.
