MHO on Dealers and Service by jsstover
Apr 03, 2002 (4:32 pm)
I have owned many vehicles during my time and I must admit that my recent purchase of my XJ was the least time consuming and most enjoyable one to date. I purchased my XJ from Trader Bud's here in Columbus, Ohio without ever setting foot in the dealership prior to coming in to sign the paperwork. I had done a considerable amount of homework (Thank you Edmunds) and went to the lot after they closed. I was originally looking at a Sport, but my wife, knowing me, suggested I "look at the one with the neater rims." So I called the next day and spoke with Benny and gave him the stock number. I told him that I previous sold cars and knew the game. I told him the number I wanted to pay and my justification (discounts and incentives) on how I arrived at that number. Benny put me on hold a minute and came back and said "Deal". Went in that night, in and out in 20 minutes.

Service is also great. Always get me in immediately when I call for an oil change, and wash her up for me. The coffee may be what comes out of my oil pan, but it's drinkable. Have not had any major service yet. 30K is coming up soon. Thanks.

Great service in Chicago area by babsj
Apr 07, 2002 (11:38 am)
Best Jeep service at Fields in Northfield, IL- a northern suburb of Chicago. Car wash every time the vehicle is serviced, free car washes for as long as your own the vehicle(bring it in at any time), free food on Saturdays, clean and friendly shop. Great waiting room with data ports, bagels and coffee. Good customer followup, attention to detail at all times.

I sure miss Fields since I moved to TX. However, I recommend Huffines Jeep in Plano (suburb of Dallas) for good mechanical service. Their waiting room sucks, the Dunkin Donuts are abominable, but they do good work. After all, I suppose that's the most important thing...

Nice to see some good things posted about dealers by tsjay
Jun 04, 2002 (5:44 am)
I know many car dealers do things that make them deserve a bad name, but it is really nice to see that some folks who are treated right are appreciative enough to post about their positive experience.

I am not a car dealer, by the way. But I am someone who is glad that we have car dealers to go to when we want to purchase a vechicle or need service on one.

I just can't see buying a car direct from the manufacturer and then going to some huge distribution center to pick it up. I like the personal touch of buying through a dealer.

I think most car dealers will treat you right. I have had some very good experiences and consider a lot of these people to be friends of mine.

BIG -vs- small ? by sandyboy
Jun 20, 2002 (6:39 am)
Around me (Northern New Jersey), there are many Jeep outlets. Some are Jeep exclusives, some are teamed with Chrysler, some with Dodge, and some have all 3.
MOST are mega million dollar stores on the highway with 100s and 100s of cars and something like 25 salespeople and a service department the size of 1/2 a football field.
Personally, I've had it with those type of dealers. I understand people go there thinking they'll get a better price (not true) and/or find the car they want, in stock, and can have it (heres comes the HOLY word....TOMORROW!!!)

Wanting better, I sought out the smallest teeny- tiny dealer I could find. 'Ya know, the one with like 12 vehicles in stock. Here's my experience:-
Naturally, he didn't have the odd-ball that I wanted in stock, so he went on his computer and found 4 identical in different colors for me to choose from! Each identically equipped, exactly how I wanted it! I was given a choice of black, bright red, deep blue or silver. He then went and traveled the distance to pick it up at the dealer who had it (36 miles away), and brought it back, serviced it and delivered it to me in perfect condition. He handed me the INVOICE, to show that it was a $400.00 deal ($400.00 over his invoice, and then filled out the forms for me to get my $2,000.00 factory-to-customer rebate in the mail.
While it's been trouble-free - now for 13 months, I have stopped into service when I've had a couple of questions, and for my 3 oil/filter/lube changes. They will NOT handle any other dealer's service work, on cars that they did NOT sell, (they are too small with to small a service area) and do only their own sales!! I have never waited for more than 10 minutes (MAX) for my Jeep to be brought in & begun being worked on. They cover the seats with plastic, and put plastic on the floor & a plastic steering wheel wrap on the wheel. They did the recall for me in 8 minutes! There is always a plate of donuts & 3 kinds of coffee in the wating room, which is always SUPER clean, and they gave me my first 2 oil changes/filters & lubes FREE !!! The 3rd one they gave me a coupon to get it for $14.95 instead of the normal $19.95 !
They give great deals & great service BECAUSE they can keep their overhead low, due to just a dozen or so cars in inventory!
Take a tip: Seek out the absolute smallest dealer you can find & they'll make it up to you for finding them!
The dealer I bought at currently has the following inventory (hard to believe, right??)

1 Full sized Chrysler
1 Stratus Sedan
1 Stratus Coupe
1 Sebring Convertib;e
3 Chrysler Minivans
2 Grand Cherokees
2 Libertys
1 Wrangler
1 Chrysler 300

13 units! - The showroom holds 1 car.

Here On Long Island.... by oldntired1950

I bought my Flame Red Liberty Sport 3 months ago from my local Chrysler-Jeep dealership(Bridge CP). As this is the 4th vehicle I've purchased from the same salesman (Andy) I knew what to expect. The deal was reasonable (not earth shaking, but well under sticker) and the service department has always been superb (thanks to Tony). And best of all, the Liberty has been perfect - not one complaint or problem in the first 4K miles. Thanks DC - a great product and a great dealership.

Texas JEEP by mkhoosier

Georgetown Tx, has horrible service as well. They were a 5 star dealer, lost it, but somehow claim they have gotten it back. I have brought a Jeep to them for the same problem 3 times now and even though I am still within 12,000 miles they are now saying they are no longer going to cover. I will be fighting their decision.

Pls. Advice on JGCL'97 4WD w/ 77K Mls. by santy99
Sep 02, 2002 (2:16 pm)
I'm about to by this car. It's red w/black molding, just like the one in the movie w/Kirt Russell. It's loaded w/leather and power everything including a Premium Sound stereo system w/CD. The owner was very honest and showed me all the maintenance/service records including the recalls for the 97 models, it was all taken care of. However, it looks like this high-maintenance car needs to be on a tight service schedule to keep it reliable. Is this normal for Jeeps? The car looks very clean and the report from Carfax.com came out clean. I've been always been a Jeep fun although I've never owned one before. I love this particular model and I actually already put down an offer and we'll be closing the deal soon. However, after all the problems I'm reading about, especially on the 99s and 01s models I'm getting scared. Can anyone with experience with the 97 models give me some advice before making a $10K mistake... Thank you!

I bought my 99 Cherokee Limited from these guy's ( and Gal's ) The deal was great and the service has been the best I have ever had. Full interior protection, and they give me a Grand Cherokee as a loaner for as long as I need it. Maybe they are trying to get me to step up to the Grand Cherokee?

Best Buying Experience EVER!! by happy39
Feb 11, 2003 (11:53 am)
I had dealt with 2 to 3 of the greater metro area Jeep dealers in Indianapolis.
I must admit...KAHLO JEEP in Noblesville Indiana was superior in every aspect of my buying experience.
My sales person was Joe Pittman and he was not only patient but very understanding.
The weather was terrible and it never slowed him down one step.
I was able to meet the Sales Manager John,as well as the owner Kevin Kahlo.
Never in my buying experience have I ever had the opportunity to meet the people behind the pencil.
They had the largest selection of Jeeps that anyone could ever imagine!
I wanted to highly recommend Joe and the staff that supports him.
To all who reads this... It will be worth your time and drive to call Joe, or drive by and see him and the rest of the staff of Kahlo Jeep.
Thanks again KAHLO!!

TERRY MORRIS JEEP BURNT HILLS NY by bobck
Feb 20, 2003 (7:28 pm)
I got a great deal at Terry Morris Jeep on my 2003
Wrangler but have had problems with the transmission
making grinding and clashing noises when shifting
into 2nd and 3rd gear. Had a bad experience with
their service dept. with this problem. Service
manager and service writer keep saying that they
can't hear any problem. Two of their mechanics
confirmed the problem. So far I can't get the service
manager to do anything about the problem. Has anyone
had any problems with the new 5spd manual
transmission?
