SUBJECT REGARDING 15 INCH PLASTIC WHEEL COVER CRACK DURING REMOVAL. *SLC
Just tell your dealer you were removing the hubcaps to clean them and they cracked - that's what happened to one of mine. Another was cracked badly when the Potenzas gave up and I ended up plowing in a curb on snow - those tires wore out by 30.000kms.

I've noticed that too. Will contact them.

1. Competitive pricing - YES
2. Youthful, sporty styling - YES
3. Powerful brakes (Protege5) - YES
4. Almost sporty handling - ALMOST? THE SPORTIEST IN ITS CLASS
5. Driving pleasure (Mazdaspeed) - SAME AS ABOVE
6. Surprising ride comfort - MORE OR LESS
7. Quality assembly and finish - YES
1. Lackluster performance (except Mazdaspeed) - B.S.!
2. Light, overassisted steering - AT TIMES
3. Fuzzy manual gearbox - DON'T KNOW
4. Unpleasant torque steer (2.0L) - IN THE RAIN W/POTENZAS
5. Unstable stops without ABS - ABS STOPS ARE MORE SURE-FOOTED, NO DOUBT
6. Difficult to read instruments at night - NOT FOR MY EYES
7. Slow windshield wipers (Protege5) - DON'T KNOW
Acceleration and passing power are disappointing with both engines because of the unfavorable weight-to-power ratio. - DID THIS GUY DRIVE A PORSCHE GT3 BEFORE THE PRO?
He does mention he drove the Canadian SE, which is the DX in the US - a bare-bones car. No wonder he b*!c#e$ non-stop.

Disgruntled former employee or owner? Or just a jealous other-brand-owner?
'99 Pro LX.
Sunrise Red! (nice and bright and happy)
Almost 49000 miles.
Still lovin' it, despite the factory stereo problems (and the occasional AT stumble and shock).
Definitely would buy again, but in P5 form.

I quit reading any of the reviews by Dan H at that site. He seems intent on distancing himself from other reviewers by accentuating the negatives in the cars he reviews. I've have looked at a bunch of his reviews previously and I don't think I have ever seen a car get better than a mid-70s grade. Sorry, but I am a "glass is half full" kind of guy.

Thanks for the heads up on the wheelcovers. I thought it was odd that the first time the car went in for a tire rotation that it came out with a chipped cover. Then, while I was doing a brake inspection, I tried to put the caps back on and sure enough all four have chips or pieces broken off of them. I had to put new tires on the car also. The factory Bridgestone were the worst tires every on a car that I drove. Replaced them with Yokohama, they are great looking tires (minus the hubcap pieces missing) much quieter and smoother on rough pavement. Got them for 124 CDN a piece from the dealer.
Does anyone notice what seems to be a misfire by either an injector or a plug while accelerating? I am starting to find this after shifting from second to third. I feel a hesitation and them the car starts to take off.

Well I got the oil change and tire rotation and the mechanic found I have a bubble in the sidewall of one of my Dunlops. Is there any way the dealer would cover this or am I looking at buying a new Dunlop? I only have 15k miles and still quite a bit of tread left.

The tires have a separate warranty. Your dealer should be able to replace them with a similar tire for a pro-rated amount. Alternatively, you can go ahead and 4 new tires since you probably only have 5-10k miles left in those (unless you do almost all highway driving). I personally would not get the same Dunlops second time around. Go with the Toyo TPTs or the Falkens.
#22199 of 24043 Mazda Protege sport sedan?
Aug 14, 2003 (11:56 am)
Hi, I'm in Lakewood Colorado and my local dealer here Mazda of Lakewood is advertising on the radio Mazda Protege sport sedans only $9995
Is there such a model? it sounds like a dealer special model to me.. I know there's a DX LX and ES model.. but sport? hmm Any ideas what this might be, before i make a visit to the dealer at the weekend?
I'm guessing its a modified DX or something, having said that is it a good deal for a dx at that price?
Thanks in advance
