It depends on your needs. Do you have children? Do you carpool? Where do you live? Alaska, upstate NY? I live in southern Iowa. I have one adult child still at home , and my husband. The SF is primarily my vehicle. I bought the five passenger front wheel drive Limited. We rarely have bad winter weather (at least in recent years) and if it's that bad, my husband would likely drop me off at work-and it's only five blocks. And nothing, not even AWD will help in icy conditions.

By the way, you won't regret your purchase. I have never loved driving a vehicle as much as I love driving the SF. It has a smooth, quiet ride. I love the XM and the sunroof . I have the SF Limited FWD Golden Beige Premium Package.

I have 1 child, usually carpool with my brother to work, and I live in Portland OR where it rains like crazy most of the year. Planning to have maybe 1 or 2 more children in the future but not sure when at this time.

Thank you all for all your great advise and sharing your personal experiences.

Am I the only one with a GLS by lucky15

I have been reading these posts for some time and have noticed that all the posters either have the Limited or the SE and no mention of the GLS, VERY INTERESTING, about two months ago I purchased the GLS with AWD, the premium pkg. and the touring pkg., and the sticker was $27,600, my price was $24,400. So far the vehicle has been great, I have the 2.7 engine and am getting 20.2 mpg city/highway, I recently took it on a 1200 mile trip and was not disappointed with the smaller engine, it did downshift on the hills a little more than usual but nothing I couldn`t live with and the ride with the 16 inch wheels was quite comfortable. I did have a few rattles at first but after a trip to the dealers they are almost gone now, I hope other GLS owners will post as well.

I test drove both size engines and found more than a small difference in the bigger engine not only with its power but with it being a lot smoother in shifting. The 18" wheels are way better for shorter turns than the 16" tires. I didn't go for the 4WD due to all the horror stories I had been reading about and am very happy with my FWD SE. Only beef is no aux jack for my ipod and Hyundai is apparently in bed with XM sat radio and you have to replace the entire factory stereo unit to get a damn ipod jack!!

In dealer ship today for a 2007 limited front wheel drive with touring package was quoted-
sticker $30,030
rebate- 4100
offered price- $25930
otd-$29257
Can I do better than just the rebate? or is this good, don't they still have a 2%hold back they could share?

The current Hyundai rebate for the Santa Fe is $1,000. The $4100 "rebate" you mention must include a dealer discount of $3100 off of MSRP, not a "rebate."

What is the make up of the difference between offered price and OTD, ie. how much tax, title, registration and dealer fees? That seems to be a very high difference unless your sales tax is close to 10%.

I also test drove both vehicles before buying and I did not grasp what you did in regards to the tires and engine or the transmission, the difference is quite meniscule at best. I have not heard of any horror stories in regards to the AWD (4WD), please enlighten me.

I just looked at the prices in Edmunds. The MSRP for the vehicle you describe is $28,115.

You mention "sticker." Did this include a dealer added sticker for things like "regional adjustment" and other nonsense?
