Finally made the purchase today, long long story: started to look at dealer prices at the end of July, worst time ever with C4C started, everybody jacked up their prices, even the ones previously mentioned by others as straightforward and honest dealers(fitzmall, Alexandria, etc). fitzmall went from almost 5000 dollars off MSRP to 3000 off then 2000 off then 500 off. Alexandria Hyundai initially quoted the AWD SE I want at $24939 OTD with 8.25% NY tax, the car was sold before I can take it and then they raised the price so much that the quote of a FWD SE with same options as the AWD SE is more than $25000, once again, demand and supply kicked in and even the nicest shark would jump on you when they get a chance. Anyway, I decided to wait until the frenzy of C4C finish. Last Friday found the car I want at Suresky Hyundai and asked for a quote, get $25350 OTD, which is a fair price to start with. My buddy helped with a little bit of negotiation and get OTD $25014.35. Did all the negotiation with email and phone calls, drove down there today, one hour and 15 minutes in the dealership, test drove the car, read the fine prints, got the finance down, sign the paper and took the car, it was a pretty nice process, both the sales person and the finance manager were very professional and not pushy at all, highly recommend it to anyone central, south NY, north NJ and CT. Here is final break down: MSRP: $27935(pearl white, beige, floor mats, cargo net, cargo trail, mudguard) Sale Price: $22793.35(after $2000 rebate) tax: $1983.52 tl: standard, around $170 OTD: $25014 plus $1.49 gallon gas for full year the sale price is only slightly more than the best price I saw people on this forum got. It was not easy to live in upstate NY for a month without a car, but my waiting saves me $1200 on the price of the car and wins me the cheap gas. Suresky's price is very competitive. I used to look at fitzmall and Alexandria only, but now they are lacking behind. Glad not to travel to MD to buy my car. Drove back 120 miles, very smooth transmission, nice layout, easy to use button on the steering wheel, only complain is the road noise is more than I expected. Gas milage is not great but probably need several weeks to break in. Anyway, thanks to people on this forum with all the info and good luck to future buyers. |

Replying to: counselor4444 (Aug 10, 2009 2:32 am) It is hard for me to fathom people paying anything more than 21 or 22k for a Santa Fe, and that would be for a relatively loaded one. The base GLS, which is fairly well equipped, can be had for mid 17k plus TTL. To think some of you actually are paying 28k to 32k literally shocks me.

Thanks to all who have posted before; I hope this post will also help others. Did the internet/phone contact route and was down to a local dealership and Doug's Hyundai in Lynnwood, about 80 miles away. We ended up with this deal from Doug's: MSRP: 31,945 (pearl white, mats, bluetooth) Invoice: 30,131 (this includes $150 advertising) Price after $2K rebate applied: 27,431, or $700 under invoice. And, they threw in an iPod cable, outside of the deal. Odometer = 9 miles. All in all, it took about 3 hours to do a test drive, haggle over the trade in/doc fees, do the paperwork - which took the longest since I read everything! - and transfer our stuff from our trade in. We had called ahead, said we'd be down with our trade in, but made no commitments (and hadn't decided to buy going in). When we arrived the Santa Fe was washed and parked out front, ready for a drive. Paperwork was already started on the chance we might buy. (It was a VERY slow day.) After we agreed to a deal, the salesman covered all the new owner items while the finance guy prepared his paperwork. While we were signing papers, the car was filled with gas and our trade was brought around and parked next to it, so we could transfer our stuff easily. Nicely orchestrated, very little wasted time and no feeling of pressure. If I've missed anything relevant, I'll try to answer. |

Hi - does anyone on this forum have an experience buying through carmax? Is it true that it follows no haggle pricing. Is it liek a crime to even think about price haggling in carmax? Also, can anyone please give a fair OTD for 2009 basic SantaFe in CA? Thanks much |
