I'm in Canada so I guess your prices won't help me at all. I have asked 5 dealers for an email price, only 1 responded. I gave a phony phone # and address cause I don't want them calling me or writing me. I want to see the email price first, then decide to call them myself. I just came back from 2 weeks vacation in Victoria, BC and the rental I was given is the Sante Fe and I fell in love. It was wonderful to drive and the vision was amazing. I don't even want to look at my car, told hubby I want a Santa Fe, he said ok. I am 2 hrs from the City here, so I really need to get email prices before I drive into the city to shop. I need to know what they have in stock etc. Do any of you think that paying cash automatically saves money? Or does it matter?   I hate buying new vehicles, I'm good at dickering, I simply say: Can't go that high, thanks for your time and walk out. They usually call me by the next day, however, like I say I live 2 hrs. from dealerships, so that won't happen now. Its a wonderful SUV, I didn't think I'd ever want one but here I am, and I never thought I'd ever buy foreign, but here I am lol. Good Luck to all, hope I can get a good deal marg2buylink">

Replying to: CowherPower (Jul 02, 2009 1:12 pm) If you intend to keep the car till it drops, I'd say worry about the break in period. if you intend to sell it in 3-5 years, leave the break in worries to the next owner to worry about oil consumption and low mileage. But all said, after 3 weeks of emails and calls, I felt I got the car I wanted at the price I wanted, and I did not have to dicker around too much on their turf. Its a control issue - car dealerships are mostly based on a high pressure sale and controlling your emotions when they have you in the dealership. When you do it over email, price is the only tool they have, and usually the folks who will not respond know that they will never be the lowest price. So I felt I was probably not losing much with the dealers who did not respond. Also, make absolutely certain they tell you the OTD price for the car, not just their discounted price as they can always slip in things when you get there. The price was right, but on my last test drive I just couldn't get comfortable without my head hitting the roof. I'm 6' 4" with most of that coming above the belt, and I would have had to tilt the seat way back to stop my hair from rubbing on the ceiling. So now I am looking at getting a Toyota Highlander instead. It's a good bit more expensive, but I also think it is much nicer on the inside (and maintains its value better). The Santa Fe looks like a great vehicle, I just wish it had an extra inch of head room.

So I am shopping for a 09 Limited AWD and currently have a quote of $27,300 OTD. How does this sound for a deal? I've been playing two dealers against each other and could hopefully get a little bit lower - question is how much (if at all). This is in VA/NC.   THanks. Their pat answer to me so far is: go to the website, the vehicles and prices are all there to browse through. And if I want any more information to phone him. I'm trying to get something in writing in an email b/f I call him, or should say them, still waiting, they're not giving an inch marg2buy

Out of the eleven dealers within 100 miles, three haven't responded at all. Two were pretty good often responding within an hour (during business hours). Their answers were always on point. These two were lowest quotes I got. The others were considerably worse: not answering my question, answering the wrong question, days between between replies, etc. Overall I got a range of $1200 on their lowest, OTD prices.   One I nicknamed texting guy- his answers looking like of bunch of text messages strung together. While he was the one of the lowest priced and promised to beat any other dealer's price his lack of professionalism, timeliness (or lack thereof) and varying answers over time really turned me off.   I ended up putting a deposit down this weekend with one of the good ones. The price was as quoted.
