This is the first time I have ever dickered for car price and, upon reflection, I think I could have done better had I waited a bit. Go on the internet and get five price quotes. Ask your local dealer to match the lowest one. Be patient and wait. Also, try to get them to waive the dealer fee. In my state it is $600. This is where I messed up -- didn't negotiate that part. What is the reasonable obtainable price for 2009 Santa Fe GLS / auto transmission? It seems like the MSRP is $23,870. What price should I be shooting for, before any rebate/finance deal? Thanks.

Ok, I found a dealer who has a 2009 Santa Fe Limited AWD without any extras (other than floor mats) with an OTD price of $27,450. For comparison purposes, if I take out the tax, title, and processing fee, their price is $26,413. The Edmunds TMV price is $27,181.   Should I try for better, or am I already doing pretty good since it is already $768 under the TMV? I think you could come out about 1500 better. You didn't say if your price included any rebate. Check some of the earlier post to see what others paid. I looked over a whole bunch of posts in this thread but only found one or two with hard numbers on a Limited AWD. Seemed like my price was better than those.   Thanks for the tip on checking West Broad. I'm in northern Virginia, so that would be a haul, but maybe I can get a better quote from them and then use it up here. I see on the Hyundai web site that the $2000 SF rebate continues for the month of July. They also have on the top of the page an offer of $1000 rebate and a year's worth of gas at $1.49/gal. I assume that you get to pick one or the other? Replies to this message: steve_ (Jul 02, 2009 7:33 am)

I hadn't thought to check the Edmunds page. Same story for my zip code.   "Fun" is not a word I've ever associated with car shopping. Except for the last car I bought (first time with internet sales) I feel like taking a shower by the time it's done. This time around though, even dealing with internet sales, so far it's looking like another shower is coming.   OTOH since I spent some time selling cars in an earlier life I do amuse myself predicting what the salesman or manager is going to say/try next.   But I've still got some time. I'm waiting for the CARS program to get in full swing. I'll either buy in late July for delivery the first week of August (if they agree) or just buy in early August.
