| Most dealers will charge you a few dollars for an in transit permit. You have 30 days to take the vehicle to your home state to register it and pay the local sales tax. | |

A reporter is hoping to talk with consumers who bought or are thinking of purchasing a Hyundai. Please respond to ctalati |

Hi. I've been working through some quotes via email with a few Hyundai dealers in my area (New Jersey), mostly with the internet type reps at the dealership (to avoid haggling with the sales reps in person). I did a "request quote" through edmunds page to start the process. Anyway the lowest two or three are in the same ballpark. I could sure use your help in telling me where I could negotiate further, or if the quote is fair. 2008 Santa Fe SE AWD _____________________________________MSRP___________Invoice (edmunds) Base________________________________25,850___________________24,550 Destination charge_______________________695______________________695 Accessories____________________________635______________________529 = total______________________________27,180__________________ 25,774 discount (mostly rebates & incentive)_______________________________-3,752 = Price quote, before fees______________27,180__________________22,022 Fees (totals 731): DMV (I live in New Jersey)_________________________________________357 Dealer doc______________________________________________________189 Etching (will be removed if I don't want etching)_________________________185 = grand total before tax__________________________________________22,753 Is this quote fair? The discount off MSRP (3,752) seems pretty decent and I thought the 22,022 was a nice number until I started hearing about the fees which drives the total up to 22,753. Of course each dealer claims these are mandatory charges. I'm not familiar with what these fees are for but I remember buying a car years ago and being told to be alert to any bogus fee the dealer tries to tack on. I will try to get these guy down more simply on the basis of competition, but I was wondering if I have a basis for asking them to reduce or remove any of the extra fees. DMV sounds like something that could be legit. But Dealer Doc & Itching...sound bogus to me but I could be wrong. I can use all the help I can get with reviewing any aspect of the quote you can give me feedback on. Thanks a bunch for your help!

Replying to: pinnumberr (May 14, 2008 1:42 pm) All in all sounds pretty legit. Even the etching is less than some I've seen - but it still only costs them about $25 to do, and doesn't serve much purpose. |

Just bought the 2008 Santa Fe GLS AWD today and here is the price I paid. Edmunds.com price 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS 4dr SUV AWD (2.7L 6cyl 4A) MSRP Invoice Base Price ------------ $24,150 $23,193 02 Option Group 02 Popular Equipment Package -------- $600 $546 CF Carpeted Floor Mats (5-Passenger) -------------------- $120 $96 CT Cargo Tray --------------------------------------------------------- $110 $88 MG Front and Rear Mudguards ---------------------------------- $95 $76 Destination Charge ----------------------------------- $695 $695 Total with Options -------------------------------------$25,770 $24,694 The Invoice price shows in Edmunds is less than the price this dealer shown me, it includes another $150 advertising fees. So the dealer given invoice is $24844. I paid $23,142 + County tax $15 + Sales Tax County $175 + Sales Tax State $1982 + Document Fee $150 + Optional ERT Fee $15 + License and Title $143. Total $25,632 - $2500 rebate = $23,132. I think it is fair although this dealer charge the document fee and ERT fee (they said it is for electrical filing for the title). But I do not get any free service like oil change or car washing. The car has 8 miles on it and it was not stored in door when the dealer has it. In the document it says that it has full tank of gas, but actually it only has 2/3. I forgot to check it when I test drove it.

I'm looking at a Santa Fe Limited (don't care about FWD or AWD - either is fine) The MSRP on the FWD comes to $31,125 Invoice is $29,206 Edmunds TMV is $29717 there is a $2000 rebate. I'm looking for a sign and drive (maybe 1st months payment) for 36k/12year Does anyone know what I should pay or what the money factor and residual values are? Thanks in advance
