I've had absolutely no problems with the transmission in my 2007 Limited AWD. From what you described, it sounds like your test vehicle was malfunctioning.

On the reviews I have been reading, I have noticed that some of folks are commenting on the transmission in the 2008, which worries me because I am looking to buy a 2007 or 2008 with touring.

The 2007's have rave reviews everywhere.

It's getting harder and harder to find 2007 with Touring without it being a Limited, which is out of my price range. I hope they fix that soon.

2008 Santa Fe GLS quote by shmshen

Hi, I get several quote for 08 Santa Fe GLS. The lowest price is 18989 + TTL. Is it a good deal?

This quote is 30 mils away from my home. If I buy it from this dealer, does it means that I have to do all the maintaince work in this specific dealer? For example, if something goes wrong, do I have to go to this dealer to use the warranty.

Is it Santa Fe comes with 10y/10k miles warranty? Several quote say it is 6y/6k miles.

Thank you very much for your input!

As has been posted MANY times in this thread, if you want to determine whether or not you're getting a good deal you need to compare the selling price EXCLUSIVE of rebates, tax, and license with the dealer invoice price. You haven't provided enough information for anyone here to assess your deal. Is it FWD or AWD? What options does it have? Manual or automatic transmission? What are the M.S.R.P. and invoice prices?

Your best bet is to check out 2008 Santa Fe pricing here at Edmunds.com. Configure a Santa Fe GLS exactly like the one you're considering and note the invoice price (including destination). You should be able to buy it for $500 - $1000 UNDER that invoice price, LESS rebates, PLUS tax and license.

Thanks. It is AWD automatic basic options. I do not remember the MSRP and invoice prices. So the MSRP and invoice prices listed in the sticker should be the same with the price shownn at Edmunds.com if I have exact options?

I'm another happy owner of a 2008. I've seen the several reviews of transmission problems, and they are disturbing. However, I haven't seen this behavior AT ALL in my SF. I remember when Chrysler introduced their electronically-controlled transmission they had loads of problems with it...and yet, my wife's Stratus has had no transmission problems. In fact, though that's not known as being a particularly good vehicle, we've had good luck with it. I think the transmission problems must be isolated ones, though it's disappointing to read that Hyundai seems so reluctant to correct them.

Just for comparison, read the Murano forums - you'll see dozens and dozens of people who've complained of transmission-related problems - and yet the Murano is very highly rated and considered reliable!

Only the M.S.R.P. is shown on the sticker. If you go to the "New Cars" section at Edmunds.com, the "Hyundai", then "2008 Santa Fe", then "GLS AWD Auto", then "Price with options", you'll be able to configure the exact car you're looking at. Then click on "TMV Pricing Report". The number at the bottom of the M.S.R.P. column should equal the window sticker price. The center column is the invoice price. This is the number that you should be able to buy it for $500 - $1000 less than, before factoring in rebates.

The main problem with the Chrysler electronic trans was the way it shifted. It also gave a little thump when downshifting to the low gear after a full stop. I have had no trans problems on my caravan after 130k miles. I have several friends with Hyundai's and they have no complaints about their quality.
