The same ad is running here in the Los Angeles area. I think that they say that you can get rebates of up to $2500. I believe that the $2500 rebate is on the XG350.

Hey, I was able to get $3,700 off the $23,300 sticker price (2005 GLS - 3.5 - 2WD) by simply handing our salesman a piece of paper.

The night before we went to the dealership for the first time, we used the Hyundai USA web site ( http://www.hyundaiusa.com ) to look at colors and look for current offers. But, they also had a "Trade-in Appraisal" form, which I filled out. On the form it asks you what new model you are interested in.

Give your e-mail address on the form, because in my e-mail in-box the next day was an offer from another local dealer for $19,595 for a 2005 GLS 3.5 2WD Santa Fe. We had already visited a dealership closer to us before I received the e-mail, so when we went back the next day to "talk numbers" I handed our salesman the printout of the other dealer's offer. After showing his sales manager, he told us they would match the price. Boom baby!

Actually, I would have been happy with the 2.7 engine for that price, because we wanted the better gas mileage. But we ended up with the 3.5 for that price. (I can't believe i'm saying this, but I wish we had the 2.7, because the 3.5 is too fast. You slightly tap the pedal and it really takes off. If we didn't have little kids, I guess it wouldn't be a concern.)

Anyway, so we got a good deal and had a good buying experience for a change. Took 80% of the stress out of the buying experience. To get $3,700 off the sticker, I would have had to offer at least $5,000 less ($2,00 below "invoice") and haggle from there.

We got 1.9% financing too.

Good luck to you...

Something to keep in mind if you don't know already...

When you see the advertised price in the paper, in fine print, it's after ALL possible rebates have been applied. It would be like trying to find a needle in a haystack to be able to find a person who would be able to qualify for all those rebates. First time owner is easy $1K, previous owner, $1K, but then, if you aren't military you lose, if you aren't a new graduate you lose and if you don't have one of the "competitive cars" they're listing as giving an additional incentive, you lose. I didn't know this before but was explained about it at the dealer.

Still feel I got a great price!

NEWHYU-hope you get good gas mileage. I went for the 2.7 for that same reason - I've gotten 19.5, 17.5 and 18.5 respectively - thought it would be more - would say 75% city driving.

buying the extras by bisonblonde

I am considering buying a GLS 05. Are people buying the extras that the business manager offers like undercoating etc? Is it worth it? Did anyone else have trouble deciding between the 2.7 and the 3.5? Any stats on the difference in fuel economy out there?

No need to buy undercoating. The car comes with a 7yr rust warranty as it is. There are many things offered in the finance office. They don't suit everybody's needs, but usually one or two work for each case. Just make sure you understand what they are offering and keep an open mind.

I have been wanting to purchase an SUV for some time and after much research, I have settled on the SF, specifically the LX AWD model. I plan to wait until Jan. 2006 to buy and will be paying cash. I know the SF design is changing beginning with the 2006 model, which I'm assuming will be available near the end of this year. I can only spend around $20,000 total. Should I expect the base price of the SF to increase due to its new design and am I better off looking around for a leftover 2005 model to get the price I can afford?

The 2006 is going to be a bigger more powerful car. As such the price will increase. The 2005 model that you are interested in stickers for about $27,000. You might have a hard time finding one for $20,00 even if it is a leftover model.

I went looking for an SF with AWD and a V6 engine (would consider either the 2.7 or the 3.5), but I had a hard upper limit of $21k to spend. I found one unsold 2004 model at one of the two closest dealerships (Riverside Metro), a loaded GLS with the 3.5 and everything except leather seats, but the dealer wouldn't go below $22.5k and that was before T&T.

So I went to the next-closest dealership, in San Bernardino (San Bernardino Toyota/Hyundai), looking for either an unsold 2004 or a used 2004 -- no unsold ones, and the used-car manager said they didn't have any -- but my salesman and I climbed into a used Suzuki XL-7 and we drove all around the extensive lots of both the Hyundai and Toyota dealerships. As we passed by the make-ready area and I spotted a black 2004 SF! I said, "what about that one?" It turned out this was a used vehicle that had just been acquired by the dealership and had not yet been cleaned up for showing.

Upon investigating we found that this was SF had only 10k miles on it and had all the features I wanted. I told them I was paying cash and had budgeted $20k. The CarFax report said it had been a rental but was otherwise clean.
They opened with an offer of $23.9 dealer cost. I countered with $21k OTD, they countered with $22.5 OTD, but I played like I was that guy in the Cialis commercial negotiating with Japanese businessmen -- "His resolve is firm." etc.

I just smiled and said sorry, $21k is all I can pay. They finally gave in. Then when we were going through all the paperwork the finance manager tried really hard to sell me an extended warranty. The price started at $3k and dropped to $1250 but I didn't take it.

I've driven my new Santa Fe about 200 miles now and so far I'm very pleased. This car is incredibly zippy for its size -- I've been driving a V6 Mustang for several years and the Santa Fe would give the Mustang a run for its money on the highway.

We just purchased a new 2005 SF for $18488 (b4 tax & lic), if you qualify for loyalty bonus you get an extra $2K off... had the car for a week and like it a lot. We orig looked at Toyota Highlander V6 ($24.9) and Honda Pilot ($2.7) but the pmts were too much for us.... I hope Huyndi.. Hyundai ..Hyundi .... Hun die... is the new coming of Honda. Previously we owned a Toyota Camry and Avalon.... Yes we liked the Toy and Honda better but not considering the price and warrantee. The ride and function of the Hyundai is to too close to the competition Imho. We started out under the Costco program and found the the area papers and the leaders were a better value. We found a dealer that would match the ad price for any color vehicle.
