Hey. Don't want to make anyone jealous, but I wanted to see how the following deals compared to the latest deals others have gotten. Stepdad works for HMMA (Hyundai Motors Manufacturing Alabama) and I can get Team Member pricing on any new Hyundai. Using this plan, I can get an '07 GLS, AWD, 5spd no additional options for $19158.75 (TRUE invoice minus 15% + inland shipping - not sure if rebate would apply. Checking w/ admins at HMMA.) Through Associates/Friends and Family pricing: $20382.10 (TRUE invoice, minus 2% MSRP, minus rebate, minus advertising fee + inland freight.) Using team member pricing will require me to go to Montgomery (I live in NC) possibly pay AL and NC sales tax plus deal with registering a vehicle bought out of state. Not to mention dealing with trade-in and financing. Using Associate plan I walk into dealership, tell them what I am doing, give them a code generated for me, arrange financing details, trade-in, etc. No haggling, no bargaining, no "let me see what we can do" crap. I can even order a vehicle if it is still being built (since '08's are rolling off the line now...) or have one delivered from the HMMA storage yard. Now, how do those figures compare to deals ya'll have gotten? Would it be worth it to not have to play the game? Sure, someone could probably get a better price but you have to play the game. I have been dealing with Saturn since '98 for new cars. Bought used elsewhere but that's a different story! I don't like the crap, but can do it... |

I've got an incredible deal pending delivery tomorrow am. After delivery, I'll inform on here what you all should know about HOW I did this deal with the dealer. Shooting for 2500-3K under Invoice. have a great Friday.

I am looking to buy a Santa Fe Limited AWD - don't really care about the packages, and am somewhat flexible on exterior color (there are three colors that are OK by me), though not flexible on interior color (has to be grey). It has been a while since I have been able to buy a new car based on price, not absolute need (10+ years - last time I had to buy new car after crash totalled my '94 Honda Accord), so would appreciate insight on whether I should buy now or wait. Any advice on the benefits and possible trade-offs of waiting until August to purchase? Am I likely to get much better of a deal then vs. now? Any guesses on how much better (e.g., are we talking $500 or $1000+ better)? Would you expect choices to be pretty limited, or still decent enough if I am willing to travel w/in 100 miles? Thanks! Chris

Replying to: chrislegg1 (Jul 14, 2007 6:51 pm) the Car- SF Limited Slate Blue w/ premium, xm, mats. 25,000.00 OTD - Out the door price with all taxes, ttl, etc This put my base cost around 23,500 + Tax + tag transfer. The MSRP is 27,860 + tax + transfer. Heres some info on what I did: I never requested a quote from either of 2 dealers. Some others are successful with that but I prefer to go in face to face. I did call the internet mngrs to speak with them to arrange when they would be there. This opened the line of voice to voice communication and was very important and helpful. Just a hello call after the internet emails. Went to dlr # 1 & dealt in person with the internet mngr. - Not a floor salesperson. Don't let them push you off to a sales person if you can help it. I told the mngr I stopped in previously and I felt like it was vultures attacking me and I prefer to deal with 1 person in the internet dept. I don't want to pay 3-400.00 more if I can help it. Be straight out. They've heard it all already from others. Before you talk numbers check on your own to see if they have the color and options you want on the lot. you don't need a salesperson to go look on your own. Tell them you love the car and your ready to buy (remember, you've already introduced yourself to them over the phone prior to this meeting). Lets go in the office and talk numbers. He knows your serious now. The internet person knows your going to be working off of invoice. They don't know your going to be this smart though. Your going to impress the hell out of them. I went in with a blue folder with my notes. dress neat too. You probably will be talking to the general mngr at some point - don't wear a tee shirt when you buy a 20-25k car. OK- here goes- I told him to write the following: invoice 24,565 Premium pkg 865 mats 76 destination 670 advertising 150 total 26,326 Dealer holdback 2-3% -526. I told him 2-3% but we know its only 2% - Shhhh and all of the invoices had a 150.00 advertising fee. Dealer volume bonus -700. Factory to dealer incentive - 2K-3,000 Customer rebate -1,000. ( I didn't have the loyalty avail but if I did I would have listed that too. Inside info: The dealers have quotas to meet. 30 S.F's for the month and 150 Hyundai cars for the month. This is called "stair steps". ( ONLY the dealers are familiar with this phrase on their volume bonus - you knowing this gives you incredible knowledge/power to do the best deal.) 0-2 S.F cars and they get no volume bonus. 3+ cars they get 500.00. Over that and my DLR # 2 disclosed that he gets 700.00 back. (For all I know it could still be 1000.) The column after 3+ is blank but you have to figure that if they sell 10 S.F's its going to be more than 500. They thought I was nuts but were totally impressed with what is written above. I told them "this is end of year and you have to move cars. Hyundai took off the loyalty in Florida which is crazy. Why on earth did they do that. You've got the dlr wondering himself why. At this point, you tell him its plain and clear. Internet sites all over the country. I had him go onto the internet to the Fitzmall.com website I had him look at Townehyundai.com From these he'll see inv less 2200-2400 on Fitz and on town he'll see inv less 3100. you've now proven your point that what we're talking is real and they can do it too. My dealer #1 wanted to add a 598.00 dealer fee to the price. they insisted that "every Customer" has the dealer fee. BS. I brought up the Dlr fee topic again and at the end of our meeting, the mngr said to me quietly, "we're not going to lose a deal because of the dlr fee." which means without telling me outright, it can come off. Dlr #1's price was 25,992 OTD. ( We had not taken off the dlr fee yet from this price). this includes "Everything". I went to Dlr #2 (a bigger volume dlr). They told me they would meet or beat anyones price. I showed him the same list as above.(don't even talk dealer fee). I told him the deal from #1 was inv less 1800. & 1000 customer rebate = 2800.00 with no dlr fee. At first he said they would match it and offered me the car OTD for 25,200. It was 9:15 pm and I was exhausted. I said let me think about it. The next day I called the Sales Manager. I told him I want to buy the car from them, they're closer to me, I like the dealership, and I will recommend them and probably have 2-3 of my friends buy cars from them over the next yr or so but how could they let me walk for 200.00. matching dlr #1's price or beating it by 20.00 is like being a weasel. If your going to beat the price, 200.00 is perfectly reasonable, 500.00 is better but at least the 200.00 is respectful. the sales manager called me back 1hr later to set up a time. Great auto purchase and it was a win, win deal. Sorry for taking up so much of this thread but this info should help everyone get a better deal. Good luck to all. Let us know how your deals go. Be straight out but be friendly with your "Salesperson". He's not selling you this time. You have to sell him on your price. PS- I bought the cargo tray outright from the parts dept. The price came down and list is now 67.50. Just for asking at the parts desk, they gave me an add'l 10% off. Strange how the window sticker shows 90.00/73.cost. Good Luck.

Replying to: chrislegg1 (Jul 14, 2007 7:30 pm) We all thought it would surely get better this month and nothing happened here in Florida. Texas lost some of their incentives too. You have to weigh out the options: is your color, model, and options going to be avail next month. I say go for it now. good luck.

At Kearny Mesa Hyundai in San Diego, bought a new 2007 Santa Fe Limited with Premium Package (#26), 5-seat floor mats, cargo tray and wheel locks: $24,300 - $1,000 rebate = $23,300 + tax and license. (Looks to me like $1,116 below invoice BEFORE the rebate.) I was dealing with several dealers, one of whom found what I wanted and had it transferred from one of the others with whom I was dealing! I think I got a good price. The salesman was wonderful to deal with and was very aggressive only in finding what I wanted. |
