2004 X TYPE 3.0 INTERMITENT SMALL VIBRATION by nicolase

MY 2004 X TYPE CAR HAS ONLY 5K MILES ON IT. EVERY 200 OR 300 MILES IT VIBRATES A LITTLE BIT FOR ABOUT 5 SECONDS WHILE RUNNING AT ABOUT 40 TO 55 MPH. BUT LAST TIME IT REPEATED THE VIBRATION THREE TIMES AT 2 OR 3 MILES INTERVALS. DEALER SAYS HE CAN DO NOTHING BECAUSE THE PROBLEM DOES NOT SHOW DURING THEIR ROAD TEST. I ORDERED WHEEL ALIGMENT AND BALANCE TO SEE IF THE PROBLEM IS SOLVED. DOES SOMEBODY HAS HAD A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE OR ANOTHER IDEA?

Check Engine/Oxygen Sensor/Cruise not availiable by spaceman2

I had the check engine light on my 2002 X-type, as well as the cruise not available status came on, for a short period. When the cruise not available comes on the car hesitates, than this goes off, and the check engine light stays on. I replaced the two front oxygen sensors. and reset the light. After awhile of driving, the check engine light comes back on, and the cruise not available comes on again, and than shuts off a short period of driving later. The code I received was a P0174 which is fuel too lean (bank 2). Any ideals? Could this also be affected by the two rear oxygen sensors? Do I also need to replace these sensors?

Check ans see if the hose running to the PCV valve is split open. I've read in other forums that this can cause this problem. Hope this helps.

Check Engine/Cruise Not Availiable by spaceman2

Thanks Oldengineer. I will check that. I did replace the rear oxygen sensors, and that did not fix it. It seems that I can drive the car without the light on, but when I turn the car off, and back on for a short period, the lights go back on. The cruise not available comes on with the check engine light, and after a while the cruise not available goes off. I give up. Unfortunately, I will have to take it in to a dealer for their unrealistic labor charges.

2004 X-Type Auto Trans problem by jcm57

I got a message "limp home mode" and "transmision failure" on my 3.0 auto trans 04 X-Type. I floored the engine, it revved up really high, engine continued to run very high, but no power when I would press the accellerator. I went over the side of the road, waited a few minutes, turned the car back on and it seemed OK enough to go home. I assume this is a major transmission problem? Help.

High Mileage? by smwls8

Who has the highest mileage here on an 02' or 03' x type? I bought my wife a one-owner local driven 03 2.5liter x-type with 22K miles. It is aesthetically perfect, but in the first week I replaced a driver's side window regulator ($625, parts and labor), and it has Bridgestone's that howl like there is no tomorrow. Other than that, we took our family of 5 on a 7 hour road trip for Thanksgiving and averaged 28 mpg running 75-80 mph. But what impressed me the most, we hit a monsoon in Alabama-Mississippi coming back the Sunday after Thanksgiving, and the X tracked straight as an arrow through heavy rain like it was on rails. Is it the AWD system, or the fact I had it loaded to the max( 600lbs of passengers, another 200 in the trunk)? Since I own it outright, I am waiting for the other shoe(problems) to drop to trade it, but after that road trip, I am inclined to hold on to it a while. Anybody here cross 100K on the odometer yet? Thanks

I had an 03 2.5, and, now an 06 3.0 X Type. They're great in heavy rain because of the AWD. Have never put 100K on one yet, but, may try it with the 06. I've got it covered by Jag's 84 month - 100K extended warranty. If you worried about expensive repairs in the future, you might go shopping for a warranty package, since your car has low miles.

Hi, Im currently looking for a luxury sedan ...Ive always been a fan of the BMW 740 Sport but have heard and read some bad things about those cars as far as reliability and cost of repair. Ive recently been looking at Jaguars (specifically the X Type) because I love the classic lines and styling of these smaller versions. Im just not sure how reliable these cars are ....I assume quality has improved since Ford took over and these cars were mass produced but I have questions . If any one could recommend on the following choices or answer the following questions I would be hugely appreciative.

1. 2.5 litre vs. 3.0 litre - does either have more problems.

2. Transmission - Automatic vs. Standard... is either more reliable? Ive heard of some drivetrain issues with these... does this happen alot or does the XType have about the same reliability of other cars. Are tranny issues do largely to clutches or much more indepth issues.

3. High mileage ok? - Im looking for something with 50-80K miles on it. BMWs are usually pretty solid for high mileage... do xtypes compare? are there any 200K mile jags out there?

4. Years - any years I should stay away from? I heard 02 and 03 were not very good years with those cars having problems that were worked out in years 2004-2007 models.

5. Cold weather reliability - I live in Canada so this is essential. I have a 98 Ford Escort that always starts in subzero temps... can I expect this from an Xtype or is it made for Mild weather. I love the fact it is AWD so this is a big plus over a RWD 740i.

6. Alternatives - If you cant recommend the Xtype, can anyone recommend an alternative mid size luxury car. Ive heard alot of horror stories about BMWs as of late and Audis... can anyone recommend anything else? Are any other Jag models better?
