Hello all, I just purchased a Select Edition CPO 2004 X-type 3.0 automatic. It had 24,000 miles on it from one owner. During the certification process they replaced the front tires due to wear. The dealer installed ContiProContact tires on the front. Since the rears were making loud noises, and since they didn't match (They were ContiSportContacts), I replaced them with the same tires as the front and balanced all four. Those tires would not have been my first choice but since the front were new... Anyway, I have a pretty bad vibration above 55MPH. It seems to be coming from the drivetrain rather than the tires. I think that because is seems to be at a higher frequency (faster speed) than the tires. I had the tires re-balanced, and they balance fine, and it had no change. Of course I took it to the dealer and they did nothing, saying they feel it but didn't do anything to fix it. (Service writer said to bring it in again NOT on a Friday!) My question is...What could it be? I read that some of you had drive shafts or bearings replaced. Does that sound like a possible fix? Thanks in advance. Other than this, I love my X, but it really needs to get fixed. It's driving me nuts!

| MY 2004 X TYPE CAR HAS ONLY 5K MILES ON IT. EVERY 200 OR 300 MILES IT VIBRATES A LITTLE BIT FOR ABOUT 5 SECONDS WHILE RUNNING AT ABOUT 40 TO 55 MPH. BUT LAST TIME IT REPEATED THE VIBRATION THREE TIMES AT 2 OR 3 MILES INTERVALS. DEALER SAYS HE CAN DO NOTHING BECAUSE THE PROBLEM DOES NOT SHOW DURING THEIR ROAD TEST. I ORDERED WHEEL ALIGMENT AND BALANCE TO SEE IF THE PROBLEM IS SOLVED. DOES SOMEBODY HAS HAD A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE OR ANOTHER IDEA? | |
I had the check engine light on my 2002 X-type, as well as the cruise not available status came on, for a short period. When the cruise not available comes on the car hesitates, than this goes off, and the check engine light stays on. I replaced the two front oxygen sensors. and reset the light. After awhile of driving, the check engine light comes back on, and the cruise not available comes on again, and than shuts off a short period of driving later. The code I received was a P0174 which is fuel too lean (bank 2). Any ideals? Could this also be affected by the two rear oxygen sensors? Do I also need to replace these sensors?

| Thanks Oldengineer. I will check that. I did replace the rear oxygen sensors, and that did not fix it. It seems that I can drive the car without the light on, but when I turn the car off, and back on for a short period, the lights go back on. The cruise not available comes on with the check engine light, and after a while the cruise not available goes off. I give up. Unfortunately, I will have to take it in to a dealer for their unrealistic labor charges. | |
