#2486 of 2594 Sunroof problem by jerseyjag

Oct 03, 2007 (3:57 pm)

02 X type. Just replaced my battery. Had no problem with radio. Retrained all 4 windows to one push up and down. Tried doing the same to the sun roof and that's where I ran into trouble. When I hooked up the new battery I opened the sun roof to vent using the forward arrow on the button. I then closed the vent using the back arrow on the button and then opened the sun roof all the way again using the back arrow button and then closed it using the front arrow. Since I wanted to make this operation one push in either direction I again opened the vent holding down the front arrow of the button and kept holding it waiting for the little click as I heard on all of the windows when they were set up. Well what happened next is that the vent started to close and then the sun roof fully opened. Now the back arrow portion of the button does not work at all. To open or shut either the sun roof vent or the sun roof itself I must use the forward arrow. I tried disconnecting the battery for a few hours and then reconnected and tried the sun roof again but the back arrow button does not function anymore. Anyone have an any idea of how to correct this?

No one has replied with any ideas. I have tried disconnecting the battery hoping that would reset things. But no luck. So rather then mess around trying to gauge when the roof is shut, I just have stopped using it. Hope someone has a solution.

#2490 of 2594 Vibration by gmanzx3

Hello all, I just purchased a Select Edition CPO 2004 X-type 3.0 automatic. It had 24,000 miles on it from one owner. During the certification process they replaced the front tires due to wear. The dealer installed ContiProContact tires on the front. Since the rears were making loud noises, and since they didn't match (They were ContiSportContacts), I replaced them with the same tires as the front and balanced all four. Those tires would not have been my first choice but since the front were new...

Anyway, I have a pretty bad vibration above 55MPH. It seems to be coming from the drivetrain rather than the tires. I think that because is seems to be at a higher frequency (faster speed) than the tires. I had the tires re-balanced, and they balance fine, and it had no change. Of course I took it to the dealer and they did nothing, saying they feel it but didn't do anything to fix it. (Service writer said to bring it in again NOT on a Friday!)

My question is...What could it be? I read that some of you had drive shafts or bearings replaced. Does that sound like a possible fix?

Thanks in advance. Other than this, I love my X, but it really needs to get fixed. It's driving me nuts!

My money is on the wheel balance. If the dealer has a road force balancer - get him to check them again. I've only found 2 shops in my area that can correctly balance 16 & 17" wheels - one is the Jag dealer, and, the other is an independent.

Thanks for the reply. I just happened to talk to the tire dealer and they mentioned the road force balance. They only did a traditional spin balance originally. I plan on bringing my car in ASAP to see if that fixes it.

#2493 of 2594 2004 X TYPE 3.0 INTERMITENT SMALL VIBRATION by nicolase

Oct 27, 2007 (5:42 pm)

MY 2004 X TYPE CAR HAS ONLY 5K MILES ON IT. EVERY 200 OR 300 MILES IT VIBRATES A LITTLE BIT FOR ABOUT 5 SECONDS WHILE RUNNING AT ABOUT 40 TO 55 MPH. BUT LAST TIME IT REPEATED THE VIBRATION THREE TIMES AT 2 OR 3 MILES INTERVALS. DEALER SAYS HE CAN DO NOTHING BECAUSE THE PROBLEM DOES NOT SHOW DURING THEIR ROAD TEST. I ORDERED WHEEL ALIGMENT AND BALANCE TO SEE IF THE PROBLEM IS SOLVED. DOES SOMEBODY HAS HAD A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE OR ANOTHER IDEA?

#2494 of 2594 Check Engine/Oxygen Sensor/Cruise not availiable by spaceman2

Oct 29, 2007 (7:33 am)

I had the check engine light on my 2002 X-type, as well as the cruise not available status came on, for a short period. When the cruise not available comes on the car hesitates, than this goes off, and the check engine light stays on. I replaced the two front oxygen sensors. and reset the light. After awhile of driving, the check engine light comes back on, and the cruise not available comes on again, and than shuts off a short period of driving later. The code I received was a P0174 which is fuel too lean (bank 2). Any ideals? Could this also be affected by the two rear oxygen sensors? Do I also need to replace these sensors?
