I just about a 3.0 from Downtown Jag in Minneapolis and so far a like it. I have had some issues, like the rear diffs replaced, front rotors replaced, gas cap replaced, and front defroster vents fixed. Mostly minor. My only issue is I live in the south metro and the only dealership is there in Minneapolis, so it is a haul to get it fixed. I bought used with 6000 miles and got a 6 year 100000 mile warranty, so hopefully other than tires or brakes should not be too expensive......

Buy from a Jaguar dealer and get a Select Edition warranty. It is good for 6 years, 100,000 miles. I would not have a Jag out of warranty. Car is terrific in the snow & slick.

I have an 03 X-type manual with 22,000 miles. The only real problem I have encountered is an intermittent howl in the right rear wheel. The dealership is checking into the problem and will call when they find a solution. I hear the howl very seldom and because it has been reported to the dealership I am not really worried at this point in time.
The car is a hoot to drive on snow and ice and even more fun on dry pavement. Gas mileage on the interstate tops 30mpg and if I mix town and country I get around 25mpg, I could get better but I do not baby the car. Sporty car should be driven in a sporty way!

#2076 of 2594 no more 2.5 by jeffyscott

I just asked a dealer today if the new $3500 incentive on 2.5 would apply if we ordered a 2.5 with automatic. He told me that the 2.5 has been discontinued (at least for the US).

Jeffyscott:
Could you tell more about new $3500 incentive program for X-type? Do you have the link?

Edmunds shows the $3500 cash to dealer on the 2.5 manual only.

#2079 of 2594 $3500 marketing support by jeffyscott

The $3500 is cash to dealer marketing support. It is for the 2.5 only...automatic is an option for that, but I was told by a dealer last year that Jaguar never applied incentives to the 2.5 w/auto...I was trying to find out if that was really true. I had not really checked into that last year as there were no auto 2.5s we wanted available at the time anyway.

My understanding of what the dealer told me the other day is no more 2.5s of any kind are being built (at least for the US). Since my wife wants an automatic and does not like a couple of things that the 3.0 forces on you...looks like we will not be buying an x-type.

Here is link to the incentive, in case you are not aware of where Edmunds puts this valuable information:

I know what you are saying about the whining noise, tgilbertjag! In my '04 2.5 Man. the unusual whining does not begin until you hit 70 mph and magically disappears once you drop below 70. There is some whine you can hear at lower speeds, but I would consider it normal, given it is an AWD. My car is at the dealership right now being checked out. The mechanic drove with me this morning and was able to hear the whine over 70 and admitted it wasn't normal. He said that the first thing he would check is the propshaft and its balance, then the tires. I test drove 4 different X-types (both 3.0 and 2.5) before I bought mine and each of them had some sort of whining noise at speeds of 45-55, especially when slightly accelarating and one of the mechanics said that the AWD system on our X-type is not as quiet as the one used in some Japanese brands and some whine should be expected. I will let you know what the dealership discovers.

I only have 900 miles on my 2.5 manual and I got 20.2 mpg. I consider it great as driving the same routes around Chicago in my Isuzu Axiom, I was lucky to get 13.5 mpg. Considering it is 6 degrees F outside and cold starts consume a lot of gas, I am very happy with the 20.2.

#2082 of 2594 My first dealer visit by axiomlover

Jan 17, 2005 (4:12 pm)

I have just gotten a phone call from the dealership - they replaced the propshaft and are waiting for another rubber part due in tomorrow. I will let you know if the whine issue is fixed when I get my X back.
