Replying to: mb72 (Nov 26, 2008 8:06 pm) 1. I made a cutout in the head liner and positioned the screen flush with the edge of the sunroof opening. There is a beam in which I used to fasten the mounting plate that is located just rear of the sunroof opening. I was only able to use the front mounting holes in the mounting plate though it was quite sturdy after fastening. I saved the piece of head liner that I cutout and replaced it at the final stage of installation. 2. To get the necessary access for wiring, I removed the glove compartment, passenger side front and rear door sills, and the top and bottom components of the passenger side pillar covers. There is also a cover that I removed under the passenger side fuse box. I also removed the factory radio in order to plug in the PIE adapter. I then pulled the head liner down along the passenger side edge just enough for access. Be careful here to avoid damaging the airbag. I passed the cables up over the airbag rather than under it. 3. For my installation, I ran an audio cable and three 16 AWG wires from the cutout in the head liner and down the passenger side pillar. Here you will find a common grounding point where you can connect your ground wire. From here, I continued running the remaining wires under the front passenger side door sill, up past the passenger side fuse box and behind the glove compartment. Here I connected the audio cable first to a Scosche ES034 Ground Loop Isolator then to the PIE adapter which plugs into the back of the factory stereo. I continued running the other two 16 AWG wires (ACC and 12V) to the drivers side fuse box. I used this fuse box as opposed to the passenger side fuse box for a couple of reasons. The drivers side fuse box was shaped differently and accepted fuse taps that I purchased at Autozone. Fuse taps make tieing in the power wires quite easy. There is an accessory and constant 12V fuse opening which makes it even more convenient. 4. If using the PIE adapter, you will need a 12' audio cable to run from the overhead dvd player to the adapter connected to the back of the stereo. It is also important to use a ground loop isolator as the PIE adapter added a terrible buzzing noise to the audio. This was a real problem for me to figure out but I had great success with the Scosche ES034 GLI which can be purchased at Walmart. The sound is now perfect! 5. The Alpine PKG-RSE2 also has LED lighting. In order to have the lighting activate with the door, I tied the necessary lighting wire to the overhead light on the driver's side, over the back seat. Here I used a wire tap which was also purchased at Autozone. Be careful here, the Alpine unit can be used either in constant ground or constant voltage modes. You can also opt to just forget about the door switch wire as you really don't need the Alpine LED lighting to come on when opening the door. You would still be able to use the lights by sliding the switch on the Alpine unit. Hope this helps. Good Luck! |

I'm trying to figure out what type of cable I need to purchase in order to connect my iPod in my 2008 Odyssey. We do not have the NAV sys., etc.. Not looking for anything fancy, just want to connect and play the ipod in the van. Thanks

If anyone could please help me. I got this week a Honda Odyssey 2009 EX-L with nav, and HFL included, I have a few questions. I have a palm centro phone, that connects perfectly with HFL, Question A, how do I switch which bluetooth headset I use, for example if I want to talk on a headset not on speaker, how do I switch it from the car audio system to my headset? could I do that in middle of a phone call ? Question B. could I get the HFL menu in the navigation screen, or that is limited only to the Touring models ? Question C, could I shut off the bluetooth in the car, for example I am in a parking lot and I don't want that is should automaticly go to the audio system, but I dont want to shut off the Bluetooth in my phone, is that possible ?

There are 2 configurations, and I went with config A. Summary of config A: DIP switch #1, #2=ON (factory default) Disc 1 - Playlist #1 (HONDA1-this iPod adapter rocks) Disc 2 - Playlist #2 (HONDA2-my stuff) Disc 3 - Playlist #3 (HONDA3-good stuff) Disc 4 - Playlist #4 (HONDA4-your stuff) Disc 5 - Playlist #5 (all songs from iPod - iPod locked; cd buttons+steering controls) Disc 6 - Playlist #6 (iPod Direct - iPod unlocked; iPod controls+cd buttons+steering controls) You must named HONDA (uppercase) followed by number without spaces in iTunes. Anything after that is freeform text. I was aware that the charging cable cannot charge my iPhone3G so I backordered from Crutchfield. (also cannot charge iPod nano (4th generation), iPod touch (2nd generation) because of 5-volt USB charging. This new backordered cable will also support iPod models that feature 12-volt Firewire charging. Also I was aware that display of artist and song title information, track search by artist, song title, album, or genre are NOT supported. Only the Playlist number and track number are displayed on radio (not on NAV - NAV Aux function will displayed 'EXT' for Extension for model PA11-HON2y. No interruptions of RES/NAV/XM/in dash 6-cd as expected...flawlessly! My suggestion is stay away from Honda Music Link, FM modulator, cassette adapter, etc. |

Replying to: ocuihs (Dec 06, 2008 6:25 pm) PA-11HON2y is "discontinued" with Crutchfield. A new model is now available: PA15-HON2. It requires an optional cable (item # 581CBP105 from Crutchfield) to charge the iPod nano 4th generation, iPod touch 2nd generation, iPod classic 120 GB, or the iPhone 3G. iPod Text: The USA SPEC PA15-HON2 allows iPod text on select XM enabled Honda/Acura factory radios. Artist name and song title will be displayed on the factory radio. Honda/Acura radios equipped with navigation will NOT support iPod text. The text displays on factory radios/NAV is not important to us since our main control via iPhone3G. I didn't bother to exchange/upgrade with Crutchfield within the 30 days satisfaction guaranteed period. To answer those replies, I did not drill holes through the glove compartment. I took the bottom 2 bolts off and saw some opening for the iPod-interface cable and just fed it to the interface (no need to remove the entire glove compartment). The location I chose for the interface unit on the passenger's side lower inner panel (inside the panel - panel easy to remove).

We recently got a 2008 Odyssey EX-L with RES/NAV. When listening to plain old FM radio, the radio doesn't provide text with the song/artist. It seems like this has been a common feature in car radios for nearly a decade. I can't find any reference to this in the manual (except for a mention of song/artist display on the XM radio screen).  Does anyone know if the Odyssey's radio has the capability to tell me the song/artist on regular FM radio? My pop culture knowledge depends on it. Thanks! kls_125
