Aftermarket RES options for 08 Odyssey EX-L by jf123

Just purchased an 08 Odyssey EX-L and was looking for recomendations for a drop down dvd monitor. Are there any installation issues in dealing with the sunroof visor that slides back into the headliner? Any idea as to where the mounting point would be for the monitor?

Thanks.

Does anyone know of an aftermarket bluetooth system for a 2008 Odyssey EX-L that will integrate with the audio system to display call info on the LCD and also to mute the sound system when a call comes in?

Thanks!

I just took my '08 odyssey touring model in for same reason. Dealer called Honda from the manual & found that it is made that way & is not "broken." It is in the owner's manual p. 259. To partially compensate, you can listen to XM in the front & play the CD in the back with CD in the DVD player. Hope that helps.

No, I'm still looking for an aftermarket Bluetooth system that integrates directly into the Honda Audio system without looking like something that doesn't belong there.

The closest thing I've seen is from a company called Parrot. Here's the link to their Bluetooth system that integrates with car audio

But, I'm looking for something that has an OEM look to it, so it looks like it actually belongs there.

Just curious if you have installed a drop down DVD monitor? I also have the 08 EX-L with the same issue you reference. I was told by Circuit City today they would not be able to install a drop down in this van because they are afraid the screws used to mount the DVD to the bracket would tear the sunroof visor as it moves back & forth. Had another local independant vendor tell me they did not think it would be a problem but I can't find anyone who has actually done one in the 08 models. If you've installed one did you encounter any problems? Thanks !!

I installed the Alpine PKG-RSE2 in my 08 Odyssey EX-L with sunroof. There is room for the mounting plate above the head liner with clearance left for the sunroof visor to pass. I have the screen positioned flush with the edge of the sunroof opening. I connected the audio using the PIE HON 03/PC-SON auxiliary adapter. You will not be able to use XM with the auxiliary adapter which was not a problem for me. The Alpine PKG-RSE2 does come with an FM modulator if you want to go that route. For what it's worth, here are a few pointers (based on my installation) for those thinking of tackling the installation themselves:

1. I made a cutout in the head liner and positioned the screen flush with the edge of the sunroof opening. There is a beam in which I used to fasten the mounting plate that is located just rear of the sunroof opening. I was only able to use the front mounting holes in the mounting plate though it was quite sturdy after fastening. I saved the piece of head liner that I cutout and replaced it at the final stage of installation.
2. To get the necessary access for wiring, I removed the glove compartment, passenger side front and rear door sills, and the top and bottom components of the passenger side pillar covers. There is also a cover that I removed under the passenger side fuse box. I also removed the factory radio in order to plug in the PIE adapter. I then pulled the head liner down along the passenger side edge just enough for access. Be careful here to avoid damaging the airbag. I passed the cables up over the airbag rather than under it.
3. For my installation, I ran an audio cable and three 16 AWG wires from the cutout in the head liner and down the passenger side pillar. Here you will find a common grounding point where you can connect your ground wire. From here, I continued running the remaining wires under the front passenger side door sill, up past the passenger side fuse box and behind the glove compartment. Here I connected the audio cable first to a Scosche ES034 Ground Loop Isolator then to the PIE adapter which plugs into the back of the factory stereo. I continued running the other two 16 AWG wires (ACC and 12V) to the drivers side fuse box. I used this fuse box as opposed to the passenger side fuse box for a couple of reasons. The drivers side fuse box was shaped differently and accepted fuse taps that I purchased at Autozone. Fuse taps make tieing in the power wires quite easy. There is an accessory and constant 12V fuse opening which makes it even more convenient.
4. If using the PIE adapter, you will need a 12' audio cable to run from the overhead dvd player to the adapter connected to the back of the stereo. It is also important to use a ground loop isolator as the PIE adapter added a terrible buzzing noise to the audio. This was a real problem for me to figure out but I had great success with the Scosche ES034 GLI which can be purchased at Walmart. The sound is now perfect!
5. The Alpine PKG-RSE2 also has LED lighting. In order to have the lighting activate with the door, I tied the necessary lighting wire to the overhead light on the driver's side, over the back seat. Here I used a wire tap which was also purchased at Autozone. Be careful here, the Alpine unit can be used either in constant ground or constant voltage modes. You can also opt to just forget about the door switch wire as you really don't need the Alpine LED lighting to come on when opening the door. You would still be able to use the lights by sliding the switch on the Alpine unit.

Hope this helps. Good Luck!

I'm trying to figure out what type of cable I need to purchase in order to connect my iPod in my 2008 Odyssey. We do not have the NAV sys., etc.. Not looking for anything fancy, just want to connect and play the ipod in the van.

Thanks
