i didn't take the panel off. i merely detached enough of the bottom of it so i could reach up into the hatch with my hand, and physically route the wire from the hole i drilled over to the access panel, where i made the connection of camera power to the backup bulb.

Replacement Rear Entertainment System Ceiling Unit by graystrickland

Does anyone know of a vendor selling either a discounted or used replacement Rear Entertainment System ("RES") ceiling unit (everything that mounts in the ceiling)?

The dealer price for a RES ceiling unit is nearly $2600, even though the *entire* RES (including the player unit in the dash and an upgraded head unit in the dash) is only a $1600 option on a new 2007 Odyssey. My ceiling unit (but not my dvd player) was stolen from my 2005 Odyssey, so it sure seems like the cost to replace just part of it should be less than $1600.00.

None are on Ebay now and none have been on Ebay in the last 60 days. Froogle.Google doesn't turn up anything useful. Any suggestions?

Here's how you save $500-600 if you want the Honda product:
http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/auto/jsp/mws/prddisplay.jsp?inputstate=5&cat- - cgry1=Odyssey&catcgry2=2005&catcgry3=5DR+EXL+RES%2FNAVI&catcgry4=KA5AT&catcgry5=- - REAR+DISPLAY+UNIT

or, consider using someone else's display:

i bet you could go to a car audio specialist and find out what would be an easy install. i presume since yours is missing, you can see what you need to do. probably you could purchase an aftermarket display, and have someone else put it in.

Thanks for the link to Majestic Honda's site. I had spent over an hour Googling, but didn't find anything remotely close to Majestic's price. You just saved me hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Thank you very much.

Majestic's site has helped me and numerous other people.

Their exploded parts / sub-system views are great. the prices are a side-benefit.

Funny, after making that post last night, I commented to my wife, hey, this person is gonna save hundreds based on one hyperlink if he/she chooses to purchase OEM. Even more if aftermarket.

Isn't Edmunds great? Unfortunately my wife doesn't think so.

You are most welcome. As they say, pass it on.

I read your note on the DVD player. I've also purchased items from majestic as well. Did you install the OEM DVD on your 03 van from scratch after you purchased it or did you just replace the player like the other person is doing. I would like to install a complete system.

Curious.....

Coin/Change Holder by patton

Has anyone come up with a coin/change holder for their van. Prior to the new design in 05 they had one in the pull out cup holder. The new design doesn't have one. Other that using the cup holders when the center console is up what has anyone done.

Thanks.....

no. i didn't purchase any DVD stuff for my '03. my wife and i are sort of cheap. to play DVDs for the kids, we use a personal computer / laptop (screen is big right?), and we use a cassette adapter and run the audio into the stereo.

i had good luck purchasing the OEM CD player that works with the LX radio&cassette. I bought that on Handa's site.

follow that link. you'll see the two DVD systems they sell. examine the installation instructions. now then, that should give you an idea what you need to do. if you wanted to do a complete system but aftermarket.

isn't the internet great?

I have an '07 and I have one. If you open the cup holder on the dash board, right in the middle of the cup holders you will find a flat top and a little button next to it. Somehow or another you push/pull the little button and it opens a coin pocket. If it doesn't work maybe go into a dealership and ask them to show you on a floor model.
