I had to have the clutch solenoid in the TOD unit replaced after about 70K miles. TOD would engage and would work until the entire system warmed up after about 10 miles of driving. Then, it would shut off and the TOD light would blink. Luckily, it was covered under warranty.

Carty1: I can certainly sympathize with the top-heavy sproingy ride issue. Mine has done that for years. Used to be much worse when I had the original Goodyear factory OEM tires on it. Changed to Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus tires, which handle water on the road much better, which is important in Florida where we get rainstorms that white out the road and can cause you to fishtail. I recommend these tires highly and you can get them at Sams Club or Sears, or any Michelin dealer. Great traction and a lot safer than regular tires.

But, to be sure what the cause of your problem is, whether it is the Active Ride Suspension or the tires that is causing your problem, there is a test you can try. Disable the Active Ride system under the hood by removing the 30 amp fuse. This fuse is located underneath the hood on the LH side of the engine compartment in a small black plastic fuse box with a snap-on waterproof lid. The fuse is orangish. Removing this fuse will only deactivate the Active Ride system. Your shocks will still work fine, but your ride will be a little bit stiffer than normal, similar to the sport ride. If the problem is the Active Ride system, then a test drive with it disabled will reveal that (heck I drove around for several weeks with my fuse unplugged). If the problem is the ARS, then you need to see my posting about disabling the ARS and replacing the ARS shocks with regular Monroe shocks (or similar brand). In the opinion of most Axiom drivers, the ARS is a piece of crap with a very flawed design. The main problem is the control loop seems to have too much PID gain and the system overreacts to any change in condition, which may be what you are encountering.

If taking out the fuse does not fix the problem, then it may be your tires, or it could be that you have a leaky or bad shock. Check the shocks to see if there is any fluid leaking out of them (they will look greasy vs. dry and dusty). If the shocks look good, it may just be tires with poor traction and the basic top heavy design of the vehicle. Not much you can do about the vehicle design and top heavy nature. All Axioms have that to a certain extent, but you can improve traction by getting the Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus tires - they are outstanding, albeit pricey.

Hope this helps.

Sold my 2002 Axiom to my friend, since he purchased it, it dies out intermittently. Usually when at a stop or in heavy traffic. Any ideas on how to fix?

Wow this forum is sparse... Axiom still dies out intermittently. Anyone else have this problem?

Transmission Noise by vashtie

Occassionally, a very disturbing sound occurs when the car is shifting into low gears. It sounds something like a "clump" noise as it changes gears. Is this something that is common and if so how do we fix it?

Thanks/Vashtie

have mechanic to check the airfilter connection to the engine, the valve that opens up usually has carbon build up. just needs cleaning and a new air filter and you will be good.

Greg,
I know it has been awhile since this posted, but I'm finally frustrated enough with years of banging my head on the hatch to do something about it. I was just wondering, Greg, if you found a fix for this?

Urgent Help Needed - I May Have Damaged my Isuzu Badly by walk_the_walk2

I made the ultimate stupid mistake today when jumpstarting my 02 Isuzu Axiom. For a brief second or two, I hooked up the jumper cable to the battery BACKWARDS. I have jumped hundreds of cars in my life and never done this, but I did it today, in haste.

There was a spark. I quickly removed the cables. We jumped the car and I got it going, but the MID is nonfunctional. The radio is nonfunctional. The satellite radio add-on unit is non-functional, and the AC is stuck in FULL BLAST mode, and seems to operate on its own internal scheme.

I cannot seem to find any blown fuses. I have checked the 100A main and the 50 amp fuse, and both are fine.

The fuses on the inside ohm OK with a multimeter, and there is 12 VDC present on the right hand side of each key fuse socket on the inside fuse panel.

Again, car starts and runs OK, but "feels" different, like it is stuck in Sport Mode.

I am running out of ideas. Looking at the functional wiring diagram in the owners manual, it shows that the 100A fuse feeds the 50A fuse, and this splits into 2 pathways, one of which goes to the ignition switch, and the other goes to the 20A Acc Socket fuse and in parallel to the 15A Audio fuse. This branch appears to feed the MID (dash) display controller, the radio and the security module at the top of the dash.

My worst fears are that ALL of this equipment is now toasted garbage.

But, there are diodes in both the outside and inside fuse panels, that may be bad? Does anyone have any ideas?

My fear is that my greatest moment of stupidity may now subject me to all kinds of price gouging at the local Isuzu dealer, a place I have avoided since my last experience there in 2004.

PLEASE HELP IF YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS... I am in a jam. No jokes, please, I am heartbroken enough already.

Don't send out the paramedics - I found it! It was a 15A fuse that I overlooked, one called B+ Audio in the interior drivers side fuse panel, 2nd from the top on the left. This one little fuse serves the Dash MID display, the stereo, the A/C controls, the security system and the ride control circuits. Wow, I was lucky on that one - I noticed the fuse in the diagram in the manual and went back to recheck it and found I had somehow missed it the first time I checked the interior fuses. Man, if that fuse hadn't blown, I would have been out thousands to get it fixed.

All is well again. Sort of.
