thanks for responding to my post, can u please share how to check for this? also do u think it could be this even tho the reverse worked once after changin the filter and fluid, cause he did have reverse but only one thim 2 time it wouldnt move..hope the transmisson is not going out does it sound like it could be?? or maybe something simple? how does one act when the transmission is going out?? would u still have drive?? whats weird it its like when u put it in "N" it takes off like its in drive, drive works but when u put it in reverse it wont move at all...any tips?? thanks much Leigh If reverse was OK before the filter and fluid change they may have knocked off a solenoid connector, if so back track |

Signs a transmission is going out are slipping in and out of gear while driving. Unusually hard shifts. Not shifting from park to drive when the lever is moved. No movemet from the vehicle when trying to accelerate from a stop andthen a sudden jerk into gear. Or the engine RPM's go up, but the vehicle barely moves indicating that the gears will not engage. In my case the transmission exhibited none of these problems, except for the occasional hard shift. I attributed it to the fact that the vehicle had 180K miles on it. Then one day after exiting the freeway and going into town, It would no longer shift from 1st to 2nd. It was stuck halfway between and that was it. I had neutral and reverse, 1st gear and a partial 2nd gear and that was all. Turns out the transmission was toast and needed to be replaced. So in your case, it is possible that the transmission is gone, but it is hard to say. I am thinking that since it first exhibited problems after the fluid and filter change, it has something to do with that. I would back track all the steps that were taken to change to fluid and see if there are any bolts left loose, wires that may have come disconnected, fluid lines that may have been knocked loose. I might also recomend finding an honest transmission shop and having it diagnosed. If it does need a transmission be prepared to spend about 1500 dollars or so. I paid 1500 for the transmission I just replaced and a few years ago paid about 1200 for the one in another vehicle. |

One time I hit a chunk of metal in the road that put a big dent in the cat converter (among other goodies) that caused internal damage to the converter. The result was poor performance due to restricted exhaust. Good luck.
