I wasn't trying to make enemies, bother. just pointing out that gm is using VERY misleading advertising. I'm accustomed to seeing this kind of garbage advertising at the dealer level, but never at the national level. In any case, anyone can buy a gm, dodge, ford, nissan, or whatever truck at invoice less holdback less rebates. It's not like there's a shortage of trucks. I guess maybe not if you didn't live in a competitive market. In Texas though, I assure you, the price for all gm products actually went up for their "employee sale".

Hi,

I'm having problems with my 03' Silverado CD player as well. I've tried to use a lens cleaner, but that doesn't do anything. The dealer is unsure as to the cost for replacement and I am now considering replacing it myself. IBefore I do so however and if you don't mind ,I have a couple of questions to ask of you.

1. How did you replace your CD player by yourself or through the dealer?
2. Where did you buy a replacement OEM radio?
3. How much did the radio cost and what was the labor to install if if you used the dealer?

Any assistance you could provide would be much appreciated.

Thanks a million.

Cabin Filters & Rebates by rayt2
Jun 20, 2005 (12:03 pm)
Cabin Air Filters are hepa filters and yes there are two cabin filters as explained by jjtj and fairly easy to get to. Just don't ask if Stoutporter or I have changed ours yet we're work'in on it...........

Rebates - All I know is I missed out on a new truck with this employee discount plan by one day on a X-cab 2wd long bed with "power package" (Duramax & Allison) the truck listed for 32K and the discount was $8k off the msrp. That's a sizable chunk of change to me. I have never had a dealer even venture into discounting from the 3% hold back. I got my 2000 for invoice minus $500, that's the best I've ever done in negotiating a price for any vehicle. At any rate the 2005 with employee discount would have cost me less than I paid for my 2000.

My 2 cents worth...........

Current employee pricing.. by jerrywimer
Jun 21, 2005 (3:35 am)
I'm with rayt2 on the deals GM is making right now. I bought my 2004 Silverado back in October, and was comparing it to a couple of Avalanches (one an 04 and the other an 05). At the time I took a 4k hit to trade in our Trailblazer on the truck so I could get something with a bed in the back. An Avalanche would've been a bit better fit for our 4 member family, the occasional light hauling we do, and the more frequent towing I needed a trucklike vehicle for

Problem was, I could get a better equipped Silverado extended cab Z71 1500 for around $2k less than I could get the more sparsely equipped 04 Z71 Avalanche. The truck works for all our needs even if the Avalanche would be better, and $2k in my pocket is $2k for other things..

Anyway, we had our car in the shop this past Monday morning for some minor warranty work. I drove my wife back to the dealer to pick the car up, and while I waited took a look at a fully loaded Avalance Z71 on the front of the lot. MSRP on the sticker was just over $42k, but the "Employee Discount" pricing (includes all incentives) was around $33k. Of course that excludes taxes, title, tags, and dealership fees. Still, that was a good $4k more than I could get the dealership to come off of the 2004 back in October (DESPITE the 05's hitting the lots).

So while some people might be able to beat the current deals any other time of the year, I'd guess most of us would do better with less hassle under this current program. (Didn't get the new Avalance either- but I was feeling a bit sick that I hadn't waited another nine months before buying.. )

I've always bought my trucks from the feet managers at our local dealers and have always bought at invoice-rebates. I recognize that invoice does not reflect the true net cost to the dealer, but can someone explain to me what the holdback is and how you negotiate getting that back as well. currrently shopping a gmc sierra and wondering if i'll do better after july 5, thinking that rebates will go back up.
