frnkrzzo are you a hair dryer? by z71bill

False advertising? Please explain this to me.

GM web site X-cab Z-71 MSRP = $32,485.00, Employee price = $24,656.58, Discount = $7,828.42 (Thats 76% of MSRP)

Edmunds claims the same truck has an MSRP of (the same ) $32,485.00 and an "invoice" of $28,531.00

What kind of a deal were you getting before the Employee price promo that would get you a price that was $3,874.42 BELOW invoice?

Not saying it is impossible to buy a new truck AT invoice then get a $5K rebate. I am sure a few have gotten this good of a deal - but most people will do better with the so called employee discount.

Can you show me some facts to back up all of the hot air you are blowing?

I'm not sure if you have the newer body style, so I'll assume you do. It only took me maybe 10 minutes to change the filters. There's a bracket underneath the glove box.. it's maybe 1" wide and is black plastic. It almost could be called a strap. Anyways, it has a bolt that I removed with a socket, and the first filter pops out. They're standing on end, and sitting next to each other from front to back (my truck had 2 filters in the same location). Once you pop the filter that's right above the hole out, just reach in and pull the other one out. I changed mine at 85K and they were filthy. If you live in a dusty environment yours might be bad too. It's really very easy.. all I needed was a 1/4" ratchet, extension & socket (I don't remember the head size but it's fairly small.. 1/4" maybe?). I think the replacement filters were $15 or $20 at Advance Auto Parts. I have a 2000 Silv. 2500 by the way.

heres some facts to back up my hot air......

the "employee" price you quote is correct. when you buy a truck though, the only price that really means anything is selling price after rebates.

i believe total rebates on a silverado was $6000 one month ago. if you would have bought the truck you quote in your post at invoice, less holdback, less rebates, the approximate buying price would be $21500. that price might take some shopping, but it would be completely do-able.

the "employee" price you're quoting here includes all current rebates. chevrolet slashed them the day they went to "employee" pricing.

F**d, on the other hand, rebates at $5000 and hasnt changed it. sure, F**d doesnt offer employee pricing, but with a little shopping, you can get within about $500 of it, and still get full rebates.

now that i've backed up my "hot air", you tell me which company are the scam artists. please. respond. i beg of you.

why there has been nothing in the media about this scam should be obvious. gm is advertising pretty much full-tilt right now. now that i've backed up my "hot air", you tell me which company is the scam artist. please. respond. i beg of you.

...i had more hot air to spew.....
in effect, the employee price on a silverado went up by 3-4 thousand for this promotion, depending on the exact model, with similar price changes on all other models. compared to msrp, it isnt bad. compared to what you could actually buy one for, it stinks. i defy you to name one real gm employee who actually buys a car this month from gm. they'll wait until the employee price goes back to what it was when the rebates go back up....freeking rip off.

I don't know what "rebates" you were able to add together to get to $6k, but I sure never saw them that high on a Silverado. The Avalanche, which has a higher markup and has always had higher rebates never got that high.

rebates were 5k on a 4 door, 6k on everything else. quit dodging my point and respond. tell me the rebates werent slashed to go along with the "not a cent more than me" campaign......from your refusal to accept the truth, i assume you sell these things for a living?

and hey, dont take my word for it. go to the incentives section of this very site. take any gm product you want and look up the rebate. they will all show rebates with a start date of 6-1-05 and an end date of 7-5-05.....coincuidentally the exact start and end dates of their rediculous program. check any gm product for rebates on the 6th of july.....they will jump back to the levels they were at before. then, real gm employees can start buying cars again....and then one day soon, the brain dead that fell for this scam that thinks they got "employee pricing" will learn the truth. this is gonna cost gm some future customers for sure.

From hair dryer (full of hot air) to a lower intestine (full of ??) by z71bill
Jun 17, 2005 (5:41 am)
You say - just go find one "at invoice, less holdback, less rebates" when the rebates are $6,000.

The problem is - when rebates get much over $3K the number of dealers willing to offer trucks at invoice goes down (the number willing to also give up holdback would be even less) - like I said - it is possible to find a dealer willing to sell a truck for this price - but not that easy.

That would be 66% of MSRP - What % of the vehicles buyers do you think pay 66% or less of MSRP - for a new vehicle?

I am sure someone - somewhere will claim to have gotten this deal (invoice -holdback-$6K rebate) plus 0 % interest for 120 months - and of course the extended warranty for 25 years & 1,000,000 miles plus oil changes and tires for as long as they own it - all thrown in for free. That is possible.

Maybe you should call the FTC - if GM is - like you claim - using false advertising then you could bring them down.

Yes, the rebates did go down. But in the case of the Avalanches I've priced (that's all I've currently been looking closely at) the new deal seems to be a few hundred less than the old deal. But not the big bargain GM would like us to think it is. But then there are still a lot of uninformed buyers out there who don't realize this. As for Ford and GM, GM went with larger rebates to try and win back market share, whereas Ford was trying to keep a more respectable bottom line. Two different approaches. Now apparently Ford is trying to compete more closely with GM's pricing. It's no great conspiracy, it' s just marketing.
