#9968 of 26385 ? 2001 M's Best Year by jona57

I'm really disappointed at DC's changes to the M for 02. I can understand a big rebate or even a price change considering the economy, but lowering the base equipment level on their "flagship" car is a BAD move. It hurts the Chrysler image. Not only that, according to my 5* the only interior color choice is now grey - light and dark but still just grey. (The wife & I love our 01 sandstone interior's classy looks with the lux group.) Soon we'll all have the "non-event" of the 300 Special. The interior seems like it will look cool, but 255HP on premium gas is a waste. This is all those high-paid engineers at DC could come up with since the '99 concept???? A total HP gain of just 3-5 HP(depending upon which year stats you choose)? I'm sure Club members are doing better than that 255 with a K&N, throttle body, and a decent dual set-up! ( DC should be hiring you guys to run the "Special" unit !!!) The latest insult I hear is that DC is planning for an an even MORE base version 300 with .......a cloth interior
What's next- the 2.7L as the base engine???

When I bought my 01 M last spring I was feeling a bit of remorse that I did not wait for an 02 Special. Now I'm glad I took the 01 in the color combo I wanted. I regularly get compliments on its looks from total strangers, and with a few strategic mods I should at least equal the Special in performance.

I humbly predict that 20+ years from now the 300M will retain a dedicated following as an outstanding work of automotive art, and that (except for the year the YOU have, of course!) 2001 will be remembered as the 300M's finest hour.

Jon
(sincerely hoping DC comes up with something in 2003 to prove me wrong!)

#9969 of 26385 Tires / pressure by russklass

All standard 300Ms ('99-'02)come with "S" rated (118mph) tires.
The PHP/PHG equipped cars ('99-'02) come with "V" rated (149mph) Michelins

I run my '01 PHG Michelin Pilot H4 MXM tires at 32psi and am getting excellent, and very even, wear.
The comment about correct torque on the wheel lugs is right on. I don't trust anyone but myself to tighten them correctly.

#9970 of 26385 gotta love the room in the 300M by ruski

Oct 04, 2001 (8:05 pm)

Going to a garage sale tomorrow. Loaded my 300M with:
-two disassembled round cribs
-two backpack child carriers
-large floor lamp
-folded double stroller (front to back seating, quite a bulky construction)
-child barrier (two long pipes, two short pipes, netting between them)

there is more room left, and I have not put anything in the front passenger seat.

Wife's RX300 is a joke. Couldn't carry a half of this stuff.

Two things. The 02 M interior is available in dark gray and taupe options (see post 9914, labeled as 9441). The sandstone is gone. Also, go back to my posts on Saturday and Sunday and read about the next generation of the 300. It appears that the base model WILL start with the 2.7 litre engine and be priced around $24k. Type 9847 in the "go to" box at the top of the page and start reading from there. I made several posts on the topic.

Thanks for the seat information. I do have a little movement, and may check this out. Three months to go on warranty. I do have a list if minor imperfections that I plan to give to the dealership about a month before the warranty ends, and of course they will probably say is is unrepeatlble or is normal. I just want a record of it so for latter on I can say I tried to have them fix it while it was under warranty. Still loving my 99. Starting to run out of mods=O

#9973 of 26385 exhaust mod by null666null

First attempt at posting a msg here - hope it works.
Was looking at the Hujo mod and was wondering if replacing the Rhino 921 with something like the Magnaflow 14266 makes "engineering" sense?
The reason would be to have stainless throughout the entire exhaust system.
If the 14266 wouldn't do the job is there something else that is known to work?
I'd also like the system to be as quiet as possible but want some of that extra HP.

#9974 of 26385 2002 300M Special by hatax

Oct 05, 2001 (5:40 am)

Heya, maybe some of you a little more read up on this can comment, I noticed at Edmunds write up on the 2002 300M says that the special has 255Hp BUT it has 285FT-Lbs of torque! They list that as being a 7ft-lb improvement, when it's actually more along the lines of 30. So here's what I'm thinking, everyone is looking at the HP, what about the torque aspect? The reason the GTP gets us from the line is that it has 280FT-Lbs of torque available at a lower RPM than our 255. So... I'm wondering if there may be more performance in the special than we orignally thought? Maybe? If someone whos got the flyer on it from the dealership can put in a blurb if it's listed in there....

Just something I noticed!

that 285 could be a typo.

I got that Chrysler news mag in the mail. Had a brief right up on the special. Said it did have HID lights, Said the HP was 255, no torque figure though. Said it also pulls .91G's! on the skidpad. Claims it's a better number the a Covette. Says it's lowerd a 1/2 inch too. Has a picture of it also in siver with netural grey ground effects. Doesn't look that bad, but still wonder WHY they didn't just paint them the same color of the car.

#9977 of 26385 null666null - exhaust by sdmike2

I used a Magnaflow 12258 as my front collector, and a Dynomax 17739 as my rear muffler in the Hujo design. No reason why you can't use another brand and muffler if its the right size. Here are some pictures of my dual install including a diagram.

The guy that did my system told me that if I wanted the system to be nearly as quiet as stock it would be easy to put one more small high-flow muffler between the front collector and rear muffler. Personally, I like a little growl. I rented a stock M last week and I missed the performance of Big Red, including my exhaust growl.
