#9602 of 26385 Strange recall notice by scotian

Sep 21, 2001 (10:25 pm)

Just got this from carpoint.com. A "storage bin accessory unit" will protect your head from the B pillar in an accident?

-----------------------------

Recall Alert: CHRYSLER 300M, CHRYSLER CONCORDE, CHRYSLER LHS, DODGE INTREPID
Owner Notification Date: 9/18/2001
Number of Units Potentially Affected: 282,470
Component Description: STRUCTURE:FRAME:MEMBERS AND BODY
NHTSA Campaign Number: 01V273000
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Description of Recall Campaign:

Vehicle Description: Certain passenger vehicles (non-sunroof only) fail to
comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 201,
"Occupant Protection in Interior Impact."

In the event of a crash, there is a potential for injury if the occupant's head
were to contact the B-pillar.

Dealers will send the customer a storage bin accessory unit and installation
instructions which can be attached to the B-pillar. However, if the customer
feels that they are unable to attach the unit, they can a local authorized
dealer perform the installation.
DaimlerChrysler has not yet provided NHTSA with an owner notification schedule
for this campaign.

That is strange. Why would it only be non-sunroof cars? I drive with my seat all the way back, and the seatback reclined a fair bit, and I have noticed that my head is directly to the right of the very hard B pillar (not to mention the seat belt anchor adjusting knob!). But since I have a sunroof I guess I won't qualify for the magic storage bin accessory unit . . . . .

Maybe the pillars are different for the sunroof versions.

for anyone interested in a viewpoint of an American who visited Afghanastan, I came across this article written by an American who visited the country last year. Life is not very comfortable in that country and they don't care much for Americans. Its a long article, but well worth reading for those interested.

I think all Americans should try to learn all they can about the Taliban and the country they occupy. In this way, we can start to know the enemy we face and use it as a tool to conquer them and their senseless acts of aggression.

#9606 of 26385 300M FEATURED IN CAR AUDIO AND ELECTRONICS by wldock

There is a nice M in October 2001 CAR AUDIO and ELECTRONICS magazine. The car has a big audio/video system in it as well as a very COOL custom center console that houses a monitor for the rear. The car also rides on 20" Lowenhart wheels. LOOKS GOOD!

Here is a link to the mag BUT, the M is not featured on the web page however.

av-

Thanks. I will be looking for your sister. I think we all need to learn as much as we can about the Taliban so that we can put all of this into perspective. We have to remember that there are radicals/terrorists/deviants in ALL races/religions/nationalities etc. Knowledge is power! Thanks again for helping in NY. Maybe you found something that belonged to my cousin's husband who is still missing from Tower 2!

ajpiii-

Thanks for the info.

That's great that Dieter has become an honorary member of the club. Maybe he'll join the Wednesday chat sessions and TH and be able to address some of your concerns/views/ideas/suggestions re your cars AND those "5-STAR" dealers! Good luck. It would be great if he became an active participant.

I'm taking off this morning for a backpack trip with a buddy to Herman Lake, at about 12,000' and not too far from the Continental Divide. Here's a photo from our rather chilly trip there two years ago. http://btjdesign.com/hermanlake5.jpg Should be warmer this time.

From what I heard it is not the b pillar but the headliner area on the roof..Sunroof cars have more padding between the steel roof and the headliner material. .Non sunroof cars have less padding . I read the recall but dont understand were this storage bin accessory unit will be installed? Guess I will just have to wait till someone posts some pics.

#9611 of 26385 GAS -- There IS a difference by sirharper

Sep 22, 2001 (2:55 pm)

Prior to my last fill-up my M never had anything other than Shell 93 Octane Premium in it. Everything was just fine. I read many posts that claimed a variety of things everything from it made no difference to some who believed it caused damage. On my last fill-up I used Shell 89 Midgrade to see if I could find a difference. I should say that the premium was used nearly without exception on my previous cars (Neon, Sebring JXi) and I could immediately tell if anything else was used. The first thing I noticed with the Midgrade in my M was that I lost 1 full mile per gallon almost immediately. Now that I have almost used the entire tank my M now idles noticibly rougher (but still acceptible). Unlike my pervious 2 cars I did not notice any loss of performance.

Based on my observations the premium fuel may not be completely justified based on cost but I will be using the 93 octane once again.
