TSB 02-04-21-006A October 2002
Subject:Inoperative 4WD/AWD Lamps, Inoperative 4WD/AWD System
(Reprogram Transfer Case Control Module)
Models:
2002-2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer, TrailBlazer EXT 2003 ,Chevrolet Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban, Avalanche
2002-2003 GMC Envoy, Envoy XL
2003 GMC Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL
2002-2003 Oldsmobile Bravada
with Electronic Shift or ActiveTransfer Case (RPO NP1, NP4 or NP8)
This bulletin revises bulletin 022-04-21-006 to add Models
Information and provide software availability information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number
02-04-21-006(Section 04 - Driveline Axle).
Condition:
Some customers may comment that the 4WD/AWD
indicator lights on the selector switch do not work, or the 4VVD/AWD system may be inoperative and/or the service 4VVD light illuminated.
Cause:
The Transfer Case Control Module (TCCM) has not received the wake-up call during Key-Up and has remained in the -sieep mode".
When the TCCM 'is in the "sleep mode" it will not communicate with the class II bus or the Tech 2
Correction:
1.Remove the underhood (ATCM or TREC)TCCM fuse.
2.Wait 30 seconds.
3.Reinstall the fuse The module should
"wake up" and communicate with the Tech 2.
4.Reprogram the TCCM using normal SPS
procedures, using TIS software version 11
released late October2002 or newer

#8903 of 18329 cargo shade, resetting TCCM, PCM, DIC, ETC.

the cargo shade is "spring loaded". Push the whole thing in toward the left or right side, I can't remember now and my TB is in the driveway, and the whole thing can be removed.
Resetting the tccm or pcm or dic to make it work is hardly the right way to repair something. Why has GM not found the problem(s) and a real fix for it (them). We should not accept this as a repair. It is only a band-aid fix at best. It appears Bill Gates did have something to do with the software design (ala windows 95) of these things. At least the computer manufacturers are decent enough to provide a reset switch or control alt delete to get you going again. Nothing spells confidence quite like a car that has intermittent unrepeatable malfunctons that cause engine flameouts, inoperable gauges, and loss of 4wd when needed. I can't wait to tell my wife to pull the tccm fuse and wait 30 seconds then reload the software before attempting to go to the mall in the snow.
What a crock.

At least with a real computer you could write a macro to automate the process! Perhaps keyboards should be standard equipment!

You guys are great! I looked for the module last night but didn't have much luck.
Anyway, that TSB looks exactly like what I need! You really need to keep current with these things....
dshepherd3 , did you have your dealer do the TSB (including reprogramming) or did you pull the fuse yourself? I pulled a bunch of fuses last night (as well as disconnecting the battery for a while) but didn't have much luck. Did I not get the right one or does it need a re-program?
Thanks again guys!
#8906 of 18329 Electrical hum

Anyone else have an electrical hum coming from the dashboard of their Triplet? It kinda sounds like the disc drive on a computer. It only happens with the engine running. The is no CD or Cassette in the radio and I've turned the climate control off. any suggestions?

I wonder if the HUM is due to not knowing the words ha ha . Does the hum frequency increase with the rpm's? Does it sound like alternator whine? Is the radio on AM or FM? I have never heard a hum in a car from anything other than the radio. Hum in electronics is usually caused by power supply ripple, and can usually be traced to a faulty filtering component. Since most car electronics are not powered by A.C. power, hum is not a factor. You may hear hum if your radio is on the AM band and you are near a power line or you are listening to Rush Limbaugh.

This was done by me after reading the initial bulletin on this, the fuse was under rear seat, now I see there is an update that hopefully is a permanent correction. I couldn't find that TSB on the GM techlink web site for Oct or Nov.

Don't know if this is what your hearing but...
TSB 02-08-44-016 September, 2002
Subject:Whine, Buzz, Generator Whine, Whine Type Noise Heard on Acceleration (Repair Vehicle Sound System Wiring)
Models: 2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer
2003 GMC, Envoy
2003 Oldsmobile Bravada
Built Prior to December, 2001
Condition:
Some customers may comment on a buzzing or generator whine-type noise. that emanates from the vehicle speakers with the radio on or off and when the headlights are on. This sound may be altered by changing the IP backlighting intensity (Dimming Function). Or, a noise emanates from the All-Wheel Drive system (if equipped), of 1 to 2 seconds duration during initial acceleration, at 24 km/h (15 mph) or at 48 km/h (30 mph). The generator whine-type noise may be observed at any time, however it is more noticeable when the electrical load on the system is high.
Cause:
The cause of this condition may be EMI interference that is being transmitted to the radio system speakers from within the body wiring harness.
Correction:
To determine which parts to order, you will need to inspect the vehicle. There are four types of audio systems available and three specific service wiring harness assemblies.
