I'm at about 35K miles on my 5-1/2 year old Bravada (obviously light duty). Last fall, based on a check of transfer case fluid, my GM BadWrench shop said that the tech said that the fluid looked dark and should be changed; only about $350. Decided I hold off until this summer based on financial considerations. Today, Mr. BadWrench says that the tech said that the transmission fluid looked dark and should be changed. New low price of about $165. I mention the transfer case fluid issue from last fall and he says don't worry about that, because of the synthetics in the fluid it will go for 100K miles. I said no to the transmission fluid change at this time. Now the service requirement for the transfer case fluid is 50K miles and for the transmission fluid is 100K miles. I've read that there is some sensitivity regarding the transfer case fluid and it may be a good idea to change it early. But, this whole thing seems like a sales job for service I don't really need. The vehicle does not exhibit any symptoms of any problems with the transfer case or transmission. Comments? |

When I purchased my 06 Envoy the sales manager said that he had read that 08 would be the last year for the Envoy, but I can't find anything anywhere that says or backs that up. Has anyone heard anything about GM stopping the line? Of course everything is open to change now with gas prices and the Envoy isn't known for it's great gas mileage. Thanks for any input. Ken

Replying to: yatesd (Jun 19, 2008 3:23 pm) BTW, the latest consumer alert regarding tires over 6 years old (side-wall deterioration due to aging of the tire compounds) also would impact my tires if I keep them beyond this year. They were manufactured in August 2002.

Replying to: cebteb (Jul 02, 2008 3:35 pm) "the price of oil, now at all-time highs, makes up 60% of the raw materials cost for a tire. Natural rubber, a commodity nearing 28-year price highs, makes up another 25%." As tire prices rise, drivers delay purchases (USA Today)
