WARRNING !!! DO NOT BUY NISSAN CARS !!
I am an owner of a 2001 Nissan Maxima and it has been a dreadful experience. Twice in the past year the ECM and IAC valve went bad and the company is refusing to fix it under the warranty. I had paid for the repair last February and now I am facing the SAME exact problem and Nissan would not stand behind their product. What a shame. Nissan makes an inferior product and refuses to stand behind it.
Beware, you have been warned !!!!

how many miles did you have on your maxima when ECM needed to be replaced? The warranty is for 80K miles. Did Nissan refuse to cover it when you had under 80K on the car? You see, they can't just refuse unless your situation doesn't qualify for warranty because ECM is under a Federal Emissions warranty.
But yes, in general, Honda service is much better.

I also have an '03 Maxima SE, automatic, with 46K miles. It was purchased used with 9k miles on it, and it was a rental, so who knows what kind of driving was going on, but I also have had my share of front and rear brake problems.
The latest was with very little advance warning, the rear left caliper sarted squealing and then locked up. I had it towed to the dealer and had the left rear caliper replaced, both of the rear pads and rotors replaced and a couple of brake diagnoses and system diagnoses performed for a small fortune.
Owning this car is very frustrating - it's great when everything is working, but problems like these make me want to get just go buy a Honda.

Hi All, I have a 2000 Maxima SE w/ 66k miles, The service engine light came on and it pulls a code of P0160. I think this is a O2 sensor. Am I right? and also any idea on which one it is?. I can see 4 sensors that go into the exhaust system. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Gee, that's a pretty blanket statement based on one ownership experience.
My family is on it's third Nissan (03 Maxima, 05 Altima, and just got 06 Maxima last week) and we have been nothing but happy.
#3200 of 4184 2000 Maxima Water Pump Replacement and Repair Manuals
Mar 27, 2006 (1:16 pm)
Has anyone that lives in Northern Orange County, Calif. ever had to replace their water pump. I've been quoted anywhere from $600 - $900 all from Nissan dealers. Can anyone recommend a good independant? I live in the 562 area code and work in Cypress. Also, has anyone ever purchased one of those service and repair manuals on CD from Ebay? They claim to be OEM, but who knows. Thanks

Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor, Left Bank, Red Wire. Should be second from left from the 4 sensors you see by the oil cap with the other end leading towards the exhaust.

Just bought a 2001 Nissan Maxima with 100k miles on it. Nissan does know how to make a good car! Anyways, the whole left side of my guages (spedometer, and fuel) are dark at night. They have come on once on my trip home but have failed to light since. Anyone know what might be wrong and if the reverse glow guages that u can get on ebay for cheap would solve my problems? Thanks in advance!

Bought a CD manual for my '00 Maxima and '05 Titan on ebay. They are factory manuals and 100 times better than any of those Haynes manual you'll find at Checkers. Only downside is that you would probably have to print the section you'll be using to change that water pump.
#3204 of 4184 2004 Maxima Retaining Water?
Mar 28, 2006 (7:37 am)
When I press down on the accelerator of my 04 maxima SE I have noticed a strange noise coming from the passenger side floor area. It sounds like water bubbling. This noise has been occurring for several weeks. I have an appointment with the dealer, but was wondering if any one has had a similar problem. If so please let me know what may be causing this issue. I believe the car is retaining water somehow. I have had problems with the sunroof drain fields in the past. Does anyone know where the drain tubes are located in the maxima? I can see the drain holes in the sunroof and I think they run down the windshield pillars. However, I am not sure weather they drain under the car or somewhere in the engine compartment. If anyone can help please respond!
