Replying to: kcram (Apr 29, 2005 4:32 pm) My 2001 F250 has fallen in mud and now will not shift out of 4-wheel drive even when I turn the on-dashboard shift button. Need help re: how to trouble shoot this problem. Need help re: how to evaluate electric actuator motors for 4x4. Thanks.

I'm not sure where to post my question? I purchased a 2000 Frontier Crew Cab 4x4 Pickup with 70,000 miles from a private party. Overall its been a nice truck but I have one issue I haven't been able to solve, and the local Nissan Dealer hasn't been of much use other than collecting money. I noticed what seemed to be an excessive throttle dependent vibration after purchasing it. I was surprised as I had a $100 inspection done by the Nissan Dealer. The dealer indicated the vibration was within normal limits and I continued to drive it. Returning to the dealer after driving a neighbor's Frontier without vibration, I asked if we could take a test drive in any of the three similar model Frontiers on their used lot. None of them had the vibration issue. When they placed my truck on he lift the mechanic said the center support bearing rubber was trashed, had been that way for some time, and there was no question it needed to be replaced. I asked the service manager how it could have been missed during the inspection ($100) being so bad. He said it must have occurred after the inspection. I doubt it as less than 1,00 miles had been added, now towing, and only 1 person in the vehicle. Nissan wouldn't cover what I feel was an obvious premature failure. With no other options I paid to have it replaced. While taking a test ride after the repair it was obvious the problem was substantially worse. Another 4 hours in the shop, replacing the first part they said was defective from the factory, the problem was a little bit better, but still not resolved. The dealer assured me that the second part was good, and the remaining vibration was being caused by other problems. They didn't seem interested in pursuing the problem any further, and indicated it could be the u-joints or auto transmission. I had the u-joints replaced (they showed slight wear, but not enough to cause a vibration issue), drive line straightened and balanced (shop indicated shaft was within factory specs., but improved the balance and straightness after they installed the new u-joints). Vibration problem still present. At the suggestion of the dealer I replaced the auto trans fluid. Problem still there. I hesitate to replace the auto trans without assurances it IS the problem as it seems to shift and run ok. One mechanic at the dealership told me that the center bearing support problem was a known issue and a service bulletin described how to replace the part as a warranty item. The service manager said that wasn't true and really wanted to know which mechanic told me that. At this point I suspect there may be a design flaw in the center bearing support part and Nissan has assumed a "mums-the-word" posture to escape having to do a recall. After this lengthy message my question is: how do I go about finding out if this is in fact a "known issue", and how do I get the problem repaired properly. I would also like to know if other Frontier owners are experiencing the same problem, and if so how they resolved it. Thank you.

Replying to: itsnotme (Mar 30, 2006 3:15 pm) We have a group for Nissan Frontier owners & enthusiasts. The best thing to do is to visit that group and ask other owners if they've had or know of this problem. I hope it gets resolved for you. kirstie_h Roving Host Host, Future Vehicles & Smart Shopper discussions |

The vehicle starts then an an electrical blackout occurs and the vehicle dies. Nothing works no lights, blinkers emerg. flashers, etc. Then a minute later they work again and the vehicle may start. Anybody able to shed insight on this? Tom

I have a 2002 dodge dakota and my check engine light keeps coming on for a small e-vap leak.. I've replaced the gas cap and took it to dodge for a smoke test to see if a hose is broken. Unfortunatly they did not find anything and they "think" it might be the pump or sensor. the pump is $430 and the sensor is $285... got any ideas i can try?? Thanks
