Hmmm... good question.

Are you interested in relocating the tank and filler, or are you just looking for information about that tank layout? If you want to relocate, you might want to check out Got a Quick, Technical Question? over in our Maintenance and Repair message board. If that doesn't get anywhere, come back here to Pickups and start a discussion about it.

Kcram... by autonuts

Actually, I'm interested in getting information or feedback in the way of how dangerous this set-up is and if the news I read about it was more hype than anything. I would like to keep the truck in it's original form if it's safe to. Any thoughts and/or suggestions as whom to ask or find some answers? Thanks again!

Sounds like you're looking for crash stats then. If you have specific years and models in mind, you may want to visit the NHTSA website and inquire with them.

'94 dakota cooling problems by nbass
Apr 28, 2005 (12:38 pm)
I have a '94 3.9L dakota that overheated last summer. Since then i have changed the radiator, fan clutch, thermostat, temp sending unit, checked the heads (OK). It will still overheat with or without a thermostat when a load is applied to it or even when its hot weather. It will cool down fast, but still reach 230 deg. In the cold weather it won't heat up to 195 deg.

Looking for sugguestions.

My boyfriend recently had the same problem with his Chevy Silverado Duramax Diesel. The dealer's mechanic said that there was a manufacturing problem with the fuel injection system but the problem was not widespread enough to warrant a recall. It would have been a $3,000 job, but it was covered under a special warranty because his mileage was under 200,000. Still, it' going to take two weeks for the parts to come in and for them to finish the job so he's still out over $600 in rental car fees. We plan on complaining to corporate headquarters and submitting those bills, hopefully they'll take responsibility for them.

S-10 Fuel Problem? by mirinow
Jul 10, 2005 (1:46 pm)
Could you help me out?. I am having problems locating a problem(s) on a 1990 S-10. When you start up the vehicle it Idles really high even when warmed up. then it slowly fades down to a normal rpm, also when you drive and reach a stop it idles high and then slowly tapers down. but when you go to take off from a stop it really boggs down like it is choking out. The fuel pump has been replaced as well as MAP, O2, Fuel filter, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, clutch fan, radiator, altenator, exaust (except Catalytc). very lost here please help.

Your first concern, I think, relates to the fact that the tank is actually within the cab of your truck, positioned upright behind the seat back.
Consider: any fuel leak inside the cab (even dribbling down the filler tube past the old rubber gasket from the outside) means that you have a volatile vapor issue.
Light up a cigarette, key up a transmitter (cell phone, CB, or walky-talky) with enough spark, or even an electrical switch that generates a spark and you could become toasty.

You have to come to a satisfactory determination as to the need to be "museum piece" or "daily driver". I'd want to drive it like all the other folks who will be here in Reno next week for Hot August Nights. Safety is a good thing.
