It sounds like an ad is running with a movie or something in it and that is impacting your experience. We'll report this to our ad ops team immediately. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Problem has disappeared so apparently it was taken care of on your side, thanks.

I take that back, still (or again) getting the same popup that I reported earlier!

On the My Watched Items page - at the bottom of the page, uncheck the box "Honk when my items have new posts." to see if that helps. If it is already unchecked, let us know.

We're still investigating if this is an ad-related issue.

Can someone help me with this? by jmonroe

I posted this over in Stories from the Sales Frontlines asking for help and Kirstie provided me with the link to this forum. I’m a regular over there so I felt one of the hosts could direct me.

Here is my problem:

I can not join in on the discussions from my home computer (I’m now at work) ever since my computer had an automatic restart last week. Something to do with McAfee. This kind of stuff has happened before and I was always able to click on the “sign in” button at the top of the page or the orange “reply” button on the post, then put in the required info and I was ready to go. NOT THIS TIME. When I click on either of those two buttons I get a page that says, “Internet Explorer cannot display the web page”. I never had that before and I figured that Edmunds might be having a server problem but that wasn’t the case because the next day at work I had no problem but when I got home I still had the problem. Being a little paranoid I did this back and forth thing for a couple days.

I called FIOS and they said since I had no problem getting to any web site it was in my computer. I thought that was the case but I also thought they could tell me where to go within my computer to select the right tab/button/setting to fix the problem. They said they can’t do that.

A fellow poster over at SFTSF (subsequent to my post for help), suggested that I down load Firefox. A guy I work with suggested this a couple days ago and I did that. I can’t get to ANY web site with Firefox.

Is there an answer to my dilemma?

Thanks,

jmonroe

It's just the CarSpace login that's fighting you? What OS and version of IE are you using?

Microsoft has a virus program out that is fast and seems to work ok (I never had much luck with McAfee stuff). link

Before that I was using Avast, which I liked better than AVG.

All three are free.

You may want to get the latest version of IE - IE8. There's a compatibility mode button that helps with contrary websites that may help.

Or uninstall McAfee and start over with a fresh install.

Or rollback your computer with System Restore.

I am only in one chat room and it is on Edmunds. So, if I were to try others, I might have a problem there too. I have Windows XP 2003 (I think). I bought this computer from Dell in January of 2004 so I doubt I have pirate software. As for IE, I'm pretty sure it is 8.0.

I will try that when I get home. I've heard more than one person comment on their dislike of McAfee.

I'm not sure how I can re-install it if I un-install it.

Or rollback your computer with System Restore.

That might work if I knew how to do that and only if I wouldn't kill something else.

Thanks for your quick reply.

I'm rusty on XP stuff any more. I think Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs will get you to a list, and you can find McAfee and uninstall from there. Or follow the instructions here.

That'd be my starting point. Let us know; there are plenty of tech savvy people around here and most probably haven't seen your post yet.

Some internet security programs are contrary about uninstalling completely. Most companies offer a scavenger program that removes those contrary artifacts. McAfee's is here Click Link.

I had bits of Norton around for a couple years after using their trial for 90 days after buying this HP laptop.

I use AVG free.

This is the page with 8.5 free

That might work if I knew how to do that and only if I wouldn't kill something else.

Click on Start. Then click on All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / Restore my computer to an earlier time

At this point, you'll see a calendar. Select a date that's earlier than the onset of your problems.

BTW, I'll echo those who blame McAfee. I abandoned it in favor of Norton, even though my employer's global license entitled me to a free copy. Truly, it is a dog's breakfast.
