Everything seems to be right where it's supposed to be in Hybrids. Is this something you're still seeing or is it a temporary hiccup? I just clicked into every group in Hybrids and everything looks OK

I'm guessing this was done to organize similar topic themes under one heading on the groups index page. I also don't understand what the Members number tells me on the item pages.

Replying to: mattandi (Sep 30, 2008 8:40 am) This is pretty bad. The old hybrid cars forum at least listed the newest messages under the forum headers. Now one has to click each topic to see if there are recent messages. This is progress? I get ticked off by what web site do for "progress". Not Edmunds in particular, but they are included. People seem to be changing their sites just for the benefit of changing their sites, rather than making them better. -----edit------------ OK, I just found the renamed and relocated page. Now I wonder why the change... |

| on the new Forums page (Your software questions asked). Where is it? The new page is much harder to navigate. Smart Shoppers Forum is now under Car Shopping, and it takes an extra click to get to it. | |

Who decided to change the way the Forums work? The old "Hybrid Cars" forum had a list of all hybrid forums; directly below were a list of all newer posts in chronological order. Now the "Hybrid Vehicles" forum just lists the hybrid forums and about 30 assorted odd-ball topics. So now, on the "improved" forums, I have to click into each individual forum, and usually click further into a "maintenance" forum, in order to see the posts. Or rather, I DON'T have to click into each forum, because I don't intend to put up with this kind of nonsense. I'll check back in periodically to see if it has been put back to a usable format.

Replying to: pat (Oct 02, 2008 5:03 pm) That is the one to which I was referring earlier. This forum has only one page of postings. The old forum had every posting in all forums listed in the "hybrid cars", in reverse chronological order. I could rapidly see new posts without searching a bunch of individual car model forums. The "new" method is useless, because one has to go into each sub form to see new posts. The "old" method showed newer posts below all those forum categories. This is the second time within a year that Edmunds has bungled a web redesign. The first error was when they redesigned the site with the ads on the right - a LOT of people complain that their text slides under the pictures. If Edmunds had put the ads and pictures on the left, they would have been always visible, but never interfered with browsers that move text to the right when the font size is increased. These two "features" are classic examples of updates with no purpose, and with poor results. Strange, it is almost as if you don't conduct design reviews or have QA checking the designs before they are published...

When I go to that link I'm seeing things as I always have. There are about 30 individual discussions that are listed under the general hybrid vehicles group and then all the sub groups for the Toyota Prius, Chevy Volt etc. I'm wondering if we're looking at some kind of forums preferences issue here. Click on the Forums Preferences link near the top right of the page and check the Forums Settings section for how you're displaying things. Reverse chronological IS one of the settings (Date/time created, oldest first). MIne is set for default ordering as set by forums and I haven't seen any change in the way things display. Let us know what you're set for as see if any changes in those preferences makes a difference.

Replying to: stevedebi (Oct 09, 2008 4:07 pm) My recommendation is that you use the Watched Items feature to track the discussions you follow. That's the easiest way I know of to find new posts in the discussions I wish to follow. It might be a little time-consuming to set up for the first time, but I am certain it will give you want you want. And nothing changed in that feature with this last update! Sorry, hope this is more helpful than my last post.

What is the benefit of joining a forum? I just joined Smart Shopper. Not sure I can tell what it did for me yet. I did notice that a bunch of older threads that used to show up as having new posts now show that I have read them all. They showed up with new posts because I had never read any of them. A few still showed up with new posts, but it was only two or three threads. Do members get reduced drink prices?
