I found out today that something was going on with the Forums when I tried, unsuccessfully, several times to post some replies in some discussions, and none of them completed successfully. In each case, after about five minutes I got the typical browser error message that the page was not available. Then I noticed that "Read New Posts" was in an endless loop. A few hours later, things were working again. When some kind of maintenance is going on in the Forums (and I don't mean the index updates, which only take a few minutes and for which we get a warning when they occur), would it be possible to post a general message on all the Forums entry pages, maybe even in the header on every Forums page, letting us know about the maintenance and that Forums functions like making new posts and viewing new tracked posts could be affected? Then we can choose to come back later, or try to proceed if we want to, but at least we'll know if things don't work it's not something with our PCs or network? That would be much appreciated.

Replying to: pat (Mar 22, 2008 4:16 pm) BTW, the reason I thought there was some maintenance being done is that while I was trying to post a reply to another post, a little photo of a car appeared just to the left of the original post, on the Post Reply page. I had not seen that before, so I thought a new feature was being added. I have not seen that little photo since (and didn't see it when I went back and successfully did the reply later). |

did the change take place that removed the left-margin tag that displayed the number of posts and signup date (among other things) for the poster? I realized awhile ago that it wasn't there because I couldn't immediately check a name I didn't recognize to see if it was the #1 post or the couple hundredth post from someone who'd been on the board for a year or two or the XXXXth post from someone who has the default "member since" date (13 Apr 01) who I hadn't crossed paths with before. I realize it's still possible to get the information by clicking on the posters name, but I found having it immediately at hand useful, though I didn't realize it until it was gone.

Replying to: cdnpinhead (Mar 27, 2008 1:38 am) Why: Members complained about the amount of space it consumed when the information could be viewed by mousing over the username (and even some don't like that feature) We can't please all the people all the time - sorry. |
