We have been through extensive testing, network testing, load testing and everything is looking sweet. As for any visual changes you will see - text changes on a few things. For example, the term Read Subscriptions will be Read New Posts; Subscribe will be Track this discussion/group; Message Center = My Tracked Items; and you will get the ability to Track not just individual discussions but entire groups (boards ) if you wish.

Amazingly, the upgrade seems to have worked without a problem... that is a first in my memory. Unfortunately it seems to me that the new nomenclature is less clear and more confusing. "Tracked items" does not equal the old message center to me. When I first saw the new terms on the left of the screen I could not figure out what was what. However, perhaps it is all moot anyway, since it appears that the site seems to want us to move over to the new blogs rather than post here, given that the hosts are now making discussions here read-only and posting links to blog pages instead. A shame.

Replying to: ab348 (Dec 09, 2005 3:50 am) My Tracked Items - over the years we had tons of emails into us that "subscriptions" had a negative impact as people tended to think they were signing up for something like a newsletter. We also looked at the % of the overall population in Forums using 'subscriptions' v. use of a similar feature at other community sites and their naming conventions. 'Track' is a term that we believe more people will use and As for blogs - sure we want you to post there, but we aren't getting rid of Forums if that is what you were thinking. We are taking more measures to have more discussions - but smaller in scope and focused. Having discussions with 10,000+ posts is diffifcult to navigate and hard for people to handle. Therefore, we'll encourage more focused discussions (rather than one big GM discussion, a number of GM discussions each talking about a different angle of the GM story). Which is why we are giving you the ability to subscribe to an entire board so you won't miss those new discussions as they get created.

Was read subscriptions in the middle of the old layout. I keep clicking Remove Track out of habit thinking that's Read Subscriptions.

Replying to: qbrozen (Dec 09, 2005 9:11 am) i agree on the human factors issue: if you change the location of an affordance, you're likely to cause problems when people initially can't find the new location, or because they are familiar with the old location, activate a function that may have taken it's place.
