Just a suggestion... by KarenS HOST

I've been seeing all the issues that everyone has noted. I had my screen resolution set at 1152x864 and bumped it down to 1024x768. So far, no overlap.

And yes, I realize that it shouldn't matter what your display resolution is set, but just reporting that seems to have worked for me.

Unfortunately that's my standard resolution.

I think subearu might be on to something... I haven't changed any of my settings, but it only shows up in certain discussions.. Honda Civic: Prices Paid seems to be one of the worst ones... The size of the url may indeed have something to do with it..

It seems if it were only related to screen resolution or font size, it would show up in all of the discussions (though that may exacerbate the problem).

regards,
kyfdx

...and we DO appreciate the input. Initially this was being reported ad a font issue - the long URL string example (thanks subearu) will help us towards a solution.

As for the ads and "other sites" - they have their business to run and we have ours. I really can't comment that other sites do or do not have ads and how they implement them. It isn't about php or the underlying software where ad placement is. I am sympathetic to your comments and do feed them back internally.

Piling on the comments:

I forgot about the startup page for forums_landing.:
"Forums Profile
Forums Preferences
Message Center
Read Subscriptions"
refuse to appear in the gray box on the upper right of my screen sometimes.

Today it's happened a couple of times as I come back to Inside Line to read forums.

ok, here's a test then. This particular forum has been displaying fine for me. Let's see if it skews when I add a long url:

I found that issue on Tuesday afternoon - fix will be in sometime today. It looks like if you login on the left of any discussion page and click "remember me" - it isn't remembering you so when you come back you aren't automatically signed-in.

That fix is rolling in today.

If you hit a page that draws with the center column pushed well to the right because a consumer ratings & review bar is being rendered incorrectly on the left in Helpful Links - note that will be fixed sometime today.

Folks - sometimes we have production pushes that just, well, stinks beyond belief. In any given month we may push a number of changes to the system that you have requested (like the ability to toggle the reply-ghosting links on/off in your Preferences), some you haven't requested and some that are needed to improve performance or integrate with the site. Most months things go pretty smooth. Every so often we have a month that is pretty nasty - this month sure seems to be one of them. ( I think the last bad month was sometime last spring so I guess we were due. )

It is never our intention to upset or inconvenience you. On the contrary, we always take in your suggestions and requests and evaluate them in our business to see how we can improve as a community and site.

The big fire drill this week is the panel on the right overlapping content in the center column. There were other issues that I've listed in the previous posts that will get resolved today. The right panel issue will continue to be investigated until a resolution has been found. I will do my best to keep you updated on the progress and will be contacting a number of you in email to ask more specific questions about your settings (screen resolution, browser settings).

Many thanks for your continued support, enthusiasm and passion for cars.
