You can set in your Preference to have the discussions listed as they were in the old system - by date created. Preferences is listed next to the Welcome 0patience at the top of the screen (if you could log in with that). Preview / edit. Again, looking into how we can best solve this issue. We have been on the new system less than 6 hours. No matter how much testing is done, there are always going to be adjustments. This is one of them. The login issue is a bug that we didn't quite expect. We think we have most of it resolved, but if you were using AutoLogin you may still be having an issue. Try clearing cache and NOT coming to Town Hall via a bookmark. Enter from the Edmunds.com front page => Town Hall to get in. Log out or disable autologin and then try logging back in. If you are still having a problem after that, feel free to drop me an email. |

Can we preview a post before posting? Yes and no. If you select Check Spelling below the post box and then select "Edit after Spell Check" you will see your post but html will not be interpreted if you entered it into your post. How would you recommend we find our way around without place marks? Short-term (i.e. this weekend) simply go to the board and look through the discussion list. We are adjusting search right now (more on that in a minute) and it should be helpful to you as well. Longer-term we are looking at rolling in a solution that will be placemark-like for you to keep track of all your "favorites". What is the Board Search feature searching on? The text of the topic, the name of the topic, a poster within the topic? Right now it is searching everything (posts and titles) and giving you the Discussion Titles for the discussions that contain that keyword. This is being adjusted so that it will only search on the Discussion Titles. Is there a help feature somewhere that explains the software and the features? Yes, Town Hall Help is located on the upper left part of your screen under Community Tools. |

In defense of sylvia and Edmunds townhall, at least in the various forums I read, there was substantial warning that the Placemark feature would be coming to an end. At least one, if not several, hosts suggested, with emphasis, that people start using your browser's bookmark feature to jump quickly to individual topics. It won't tell you which topics have new entries, but that method does keep you from having to go through all the various topics. That said, would it be possible to have the html title for each forum be the name of the forum? When I go to "File Bookmark" under my Edmunds Townhall folder, I always have to go change the name of the bookmark from "Edmunds.com Town Hall Community" to "Whatever the name of this forum is". It would be much easier if the html title were the forum name. Thanks for everything Edmunds is doing. Moving a half million users, each who have their own likes and dislikes, to a new platform must be a mind bogglingly difficult challenge. |

Read the boards every day. Not now! Heading elsewhere. Can't tell you how many countless times I've recommended this site to others. Not any more! |

| Very disappointing! I visited 1-2 times a day to read new posts in my selected topics. I am unable to do this now in any reasonable length of time. New system does seem at all user friendly. | |

bblaha - thanks for your understanding. It is difficult to move half a million members, and almost 4 years worth of posts. It has been quite a busy, busy time. Dasto and cramam - as I have already stated in this discussion. We are looking at a way to add in a system that behaves like placemarks. In addition to that, there will be other features added in which will make participating in Town Hall as easy (if not easier) than it was before. Folks, we can't make everything perfect on day one. We just moved a mountain of data. The old system was GOING AWAY. It was no longer being supported. When things broke, there wasn't a soul left to fix it. Moving to a new system and getting it back "on track" is better than NO system...which was an option. So, you can help us craft the new system and make it yours. Thanks for hanging in there! |

(Sylvia just said some of this, but I'm having my own login problems, I see...) We've been telling you for months we've gotta do something different; the platform we were one hasn't been supported since the last century! (okay, bad joke, but it really HASN'T been supported for a very long time!) Now we are here. And Sylvia and company have INDEED gotten this humongous bird off the ground this time. There are the inevitable glitches which will be addressed as quickly as possible. It is possible that a feature resembling placemarks can still be implemented when we get time to take a breath here or there. And there are other things that will be forever different. You folks who have come to love the Town Hall environment as much as I have can surely cut us some slack while we work all of this out, can't you? You surely know that this massive effort was not undertaken just to annoy you. Give us some breathing room if you can. Keep your constructive suggestions coming. Breathe deeply and roll with the punches along with us. Town Hall and all of our tightly knit community will survive this. And some day - sooner rather than later - we'll wonder what all this fuss was about. Pat Community Leader/Maintenance & Repair Conference |
