Saw a white Intrigue yesterday with black 18" rims, looked awesome! Still a great looking car.
I've been posting in the edmunds intrigue forum for 9.5 years now. Crazy. 1st car forum i ever registered on. i feel old.
still kicking around the idea of finding a low mileage 2002 intrigue and using it DD.

I agree, it's a good looking car - I'm still driving my 1999 intrigue which I bought new. It's got the "shortstar" engine and just runs great. I thought about finding a low mileage one too.

I traded my Intrigue recently on a '09 LaCrosse and it is interesting to compare the two, since they are both W-bodies. The advantages of the Intrigue are the light, airy greenhouse and the feeling of room it imparts, and the 3.5 Shortstar. The LaCrosse is far quieter, smoother-riding, takes small bumps far better and is more advanced in terms of geegaws and conveniences. Surprisingly I found handling to be pretty much a wash so far. It isn't fair to compare a brand-new car to one with 7 years of use, but the difference in the Buick in terms of the lack of buzzes and rattles, road and engine noise, and quality of interior materials is quite remarkable. But I still have fond feelings towards my '02 Intrigue.

My 1999 oldsmobile intrigue with 150,000 miles needs a head gasket the cost is 1300.00 is it worth it? Should I put that much money into it. Should I junk it or get another engine? Please help!

That seems a bit high for a head gasket repair. Is that an independent or dealership estimate? I had the beginnings of a head gasket failure before I traded my 2000 Intrigue. My mechanic was thinking it would cost about $700-$800. also what engine do you have? Both the 3.8L & 3.5L was offered in 1999.

The question is how much will another engine cost and what's the warranty? How long do you plan to keep the car?

A quick check on E-Bay show 1999 engines (3.8 & 3.5) going for $800 - $1925. The more expensive ones have a warranty.

Personally, I would repair the head gasket if the rest of the engine was fine. Should be less money. Plus you know the engine.

2001 and later intrigues are quieter due to the double inner wheelwell liner.
My '99 drove me crazy at 80mph. sounded like a neon with all the road noise.

I woul recommend a junkyard engine rather than spend $1300. Which seems kind of high anyway.
