Dieselissy,
i have the 01 intrigue also but dont get the code but have the same hissing noise and from listening to it i found the source, sounds like it comes from a box on the drivers side which can be seen by looking under the front drivers side bumper. Is this the air pump? If so you mentioned changing it by removing the headlight? Next is the vacuum line problem a hose that is connected to this box (or air pump if that is what it is)? Mine has product number GM 12564282 on the box. Thanks in advance!!!

if you take off the drivers side headlights, you will see the black pump with electrical switch on top. I bought one off ebay and finally changed mine because mine kept getting the bottom half of the pump falling off. Not hard to change. Still got the code, but not sure if the computer still has in memory, or if one of the air valves is defective causing code. anyway, my grumbling sound may be from a motormount. still working on mine. My company sold it to me for a couple hundred, and trying still to fix all the bugs on the spare helper service car. 160K miles on mine now. The lines are connected by strong spring clamps, so if you are willing to check, jack the car up, and remove drivers side tire. Pop off few screws holding the well cover, and you should be able to get to the pump. let me know if you need any other help

Hey everyone, my intrigue; AKA Jessie Mae, just has new front struts and ball joints put on, i thought the new struts would take care of the "wood pecker" noise i am hearing that sounds like its in the dash board. When Dobbes did the struts i assumed the strut mounts came with the job, i guess not. Dobbes said the mounts looked good, but i cant think of any other suspension part that is that high to where it makes noise in the dash, i hear it while going over all surfaces and it's driving me crazy! has anyone else had the same thing happen? your input/suggestions/comments would be a great help! thanks, -Courtney from St. Louis

Hi , mines has the same noise, a "2001trigue"and after changing the air pump on the drivers side still getting the noise. Suspect must be front engine mount on bottom. I have already changed the transmission mount on the drivers side, but if yours is like mine, in park or neutral no noise, shift transmission on drive and starts making noise. Front engine mount is on bottom, front of engine. I have to see where to buy first, and then how to take it out. When I was looking on www.rockauto.com found the transmission mount, but mentions no others. I 'll try to take pics and list them here when i do it. I also changed the front struts and strut mounts, but rear are making noise and also struts in back. Rule of thumb, if you can , buy struts with mounts. expensive, so if you are like me, do worse ones' first then spring for next set when able.
HEY BREAK IN POST!!!! I finally found it on rock auto for $20.00 If yours only makes the noise while in drive, try changing this out!!!Not a lot of damage for $20bucs if you can do yourself ! here's the link: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php

Hey for the noise, I don't know for sure, does it sound like metal clanking against metal or something like that? There's a documented issue with the intermediate steering shaft that will cause a clanking noise under the dash, I couldn't figure out what it was for the life of me till I found posts on here a year ago about it. All you have to do is fill the shaft with lithium grease and the noise stops (if that's your problem).

thanks for your responses. Josh, I had that problem also with the steering shaft last year and the lithium grease was a big help, but it seems this noise (like a woodpecker on a tree) is strictly suspension, doesn't make any noise while the car is stopped.

but i cant think of any other suspension part that is that high to where it makes noise in the dash,

Since you changed struts and BJ's then the most likely overlooked part is the sway bar link. It's down low but when these things wear out, they make an ungodly rattle that sounds like it's coming from everywhere. It is not disconnected when doing front struts and is often overlooked but is disconnected when replacing the back struts.

The front one is a fancy bolt with spacers etc and attaches to the lower control arm and to the sway bar.

The rear is 6 inch rod with two ball sockets at both ends and attaches to the sturt body and the sway bar.

hey fellow intriguers, ive noticed some of you complaining about how there is no aftermarkets to put on our intrigues, well there is a few, not alot but you can find em, i got a 2000 intrigue GLS, in the fall i put a muffler on, got it off of ebaymotors, just type universal mufflers and they fit any car, cheap mod too, cost me 50 bucks from part, shipping, and all the accesories, which is about some extender pipe, and adapter pipes to change the sizes out, and you can find a ram air intake on ebay also, works really great, only problem is it may turn the check engine light on, but you can just unplug the battery for about 10 secs, and that should do the trick, if you know of anything else to put on, let me know

Sad to see how quiet it is here. No posts since my last visit in December.

I guess more of the enthusiasts have moved on.
