#11070 of 12345 Window doesn't go up
Apr 24, 2004 (12:52 pm)
I have a 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue with 114,000 miles on it. The front passenger window will not go up. I've tried taking the door trim off and pushing the window up but it seems to get stuck even if I try to push it. It doesn't seem to be electrical. It seems to be the motor in that door. The other three windows work fine. Has anyone replaced the motor like this? Is it easy to do? How expensive is it? How hard is it? Thanks.
#11071 of 12345 hja-Drivers Window Regulator

I have '99 and mine went south last year. I went to Car-part.com and found one for $40 with shipping and in 10 minutes it was in. It is easy.
The regulator is cable driven off a pulley on the electric motor. They come assembled together. Good luck.

Does anyone have any ideas???
Last September, I had to replace my 3.5L engine in my '99 Intrigue GLS. The dealer told me the rods were spun and could go at any time. I don't doubt this as the engine was making a horrific noise. So I replaced the engine, at 49K miles and was lucky enough to have GM pay for half of the repairs as I had a record of all of my oil changes and those of the previous owner.
My question is this. Since the engine was replaced, the drivers side vents have blown air that is never as cold as that which is coming out of the passenger side vents. Even with the passenger climate control turned to the middle, the air is still colder on the passenger side. Is it possible that there would be an air hose that was not put in the correct place when the engine was replaced? Any assistance would be welcomed.
#11073 of 12345 Low on refrigerant?
Apr 27, 2004 (3:28 pm)
Usually when the driver's side blows warmer air than the passenger side, it's because the AC system is low on refrigerant. Since your car is out of warranty, find a good auto cooling specialist and have them test the system/put in more R134A, if necessary.
Hope this helps,
#11074 of 12345 Tires, Tires,....Choices
Apr 28, 2004 (5:32 am)
I have a 00 GLS that the stock RSA need to be replaced, Believe or not the have 44K and still have some tread left. I've narrowed my replacements to Eagle GT-HR, Bridgestone Turanza LS-H, both are H-rated like the RSA. I'm also interested in the Michelin Hydroedge, except that they only come in T-rated. Spoke w/ Michelin. They said absolutely go with a H tire not a T tire. I'am puzzled, is the GLS suspension tune to a H tire??? I know I'll be giving up some handling/cornering that a H would give. The car is not driven hard at all(wife's car). Any ideas?

Go to tirerack.com (click their ad to the left) and search. Their rating system is great; helps weed out the inferior stuff. I went with the Goodyear Regatta II and have been very happy with them. Yokohama has a couple of good choices too.
On another note: Just replaced the crank position sensor for the second time. First at about 40,000, now at 96,000. $220 the first time; $269 this time. Even worse, got caught out in the worst hail storm of my life (and I live in central Oklahoma) on the way to the service department. Only 4 or 5 dents that are obvious. Thought I was gonna loose the windshield there for a while, though. $75 million in insured losses from a single hailstorm according the newspaper. They had to dig cars out in some areas; pea- to marble-sized hail was a foot deep.

I replaced my Intrigue stock tires at about 45K miles with Hydoedge and couldn't be happier with the smooth ride and performance.
I do not have the autobahn package so the car came equipped with I believe S rated tires.
#11079 of 12345 '99 GX Lighted shifter or no?
Apr 28, 2004 (3:43 pm)
Hi all, I've had my Intrigue for just over a week and I really dig it!
I noticed that the shifter console isn't illuminated. I did some googling and came across a board where the subject was addressed. Some year/model owners said that their cars didn't have a console light and others said they did, so I don't know if I need to replace a bulb or not. Also provided instructions to change the bulb (below).
Sounds simple enough to do myself, but I don't want to bother if there's no bulb to replace. I didn't find any mention of a shift indicator light in the owner's manual btw.
Thanks for any info.
"To replace the bulb you need to remove the console trim. Place gear shifter in N. Flip open the armrest/storage box top and you will see the two screws that hold down the rear end of the console trim, remove them and you can pop out the trim easily. Disconnect the connector to the traction control switch on the console, if you have traction control, and place the trim aside.
Now you'll see the 4 screws that hold down the shifter panel. Remove them and lift the panel a couple of inches so you can reach the bulb socket in the bottom of the panel. Turn the socket and take it out of the panel, and there sits the bulb."
