I can tell you that my 2000 S430 was a nightmare electrically. Too many problems to mention I had bought it preowned with the starmark warranty, which im glad they dont have it anymore because it sucked. Other than that the car drove great... Smooth.. Fast enough (275hp)... Roomy very roomy in the back. I heard the problems were from 200-2003. Anything past that shouldn't be bad. I just got rid of mine a month ago and purchased a 2007 S550. I love that car I just feel like a million bucks in it. One of the best cars I bought so far. Let's hope that there are no major problems or recalls to come.

I live in the Chicago area... and have been checking out cars to replace my wife's RX330 on-and-off for the past year and a half (yes, I'm anxious to get rid of it). The W221 S-Class has always stood as the underlying, oh-so-tempting choice that we both love but can't have. This is for a few reasons:

• It's huge. Why does Merc only offer the LWB here? It just barely fits in our garage.

• The gas mileage is terrible. Do they think Americans need the 380hp 5.5 V8 as standard? I'm a speed freak, but my wife certainly isn't, and an S450 or S320 CDI would be ideal. She just might not have the conscience to deal with such bad mileage.

We'll be driving the S550 4Matic again soon... but my real question is, is there any way for me to get a Canadian or Euro-spec S-Class here? Because the SWB-only S450 4Matic in Canada may just be the perfect car for her. Or, if we do European delivery (we're probably going to Europe in the spring- good timing), could we get an S320 CDI 4Matic over here? Does anybody know?

Thanks in advance.

Yes.. I DO need a 382hp 5.5 V8. When you've had a 275hp in the past, it's night and day. Of course they suck gas but then again dont ALL v8s? Again, wonderful car.

That's not the point--she doesn't need a V8. Or, at least not a 5.5L. I'm still wondering if I can get an S450 or S320 CDI for her, though we might just end up with an X5 or an E-Class.

No. There is no cost-effective way to do it.

I just purchased a 2005 S500. The one option the car doesn't have that I wanted is the cellphone. Does anyone know if I can get bluetooth intergrated phone add into the car? If so any idea of the price?

The clincher though shouldn't be that it's a 382hp V8, but that Lexus pulled the same performance with a smaller 4.6 with higher fuel economy.
