#648 of 5443 Details on Coach Edition by afinegold

To all:

Here are some quotes from the http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/010104/ny_coach_l.html website that I found when searching in Google for "Lexus Coach," concerning the new 2001 ES300 Coach Edition:

"The luxury automaker and high-end retailer have teamed up again in an exclusive deal to produce a distinguished limited edition ES 300 featuring Coach leather-trimmed interior; Coach edition badging, and a Coach cabin bag. Other design and performance features include five-spoke carbon polished alloy wheels; wood-and-leather-trimmed steering wheel; birds-eye maple wood trim; power moonroof; 3.0 liter, 210-horsepower V6 engine; and in-dash, six-disc CD auto-changer. This special Coach edition will be available in Black Onyx with black or ivory interior, Diamond White Pearl and Oyster Pearl, both with an ivory interior.

"There have been three previous Lexus Coach Editions in the USA - the '97 LS 400, and two ES 300 editions in `96 and `99 - not to mention three Coach Editions in Japan,'' reported Denny Clements, Lexus Group Vice President and General Manager.

"The 2001 Limited Lexus ES 300 Coach Edition is priced at $34,395 manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP). The exclusive options in the limited edition represent nearly a $5,000 value for a cost of $3,000 MSRP.

"The Coach Edition will be available through the 190 Lexus dealerships nationwide beginning January 25, 2001."

Last August, I bought a new 2000 "Platinum" Edition ES300. From all of the descriptions that I read both last years Platinum and this years Coach are identical with only two exceptions. The "special leather" in my Platinum edition is grained but not perforated and instead of giving me coach brand bags with the car I was given a special 2 year promotion with an American Express Platinum credit card (not something I really care about or value).

I did fall in love with the Birds Eye Maple wood trim and the Diamond White paint, which is only available on the special edition models. By the way, last August I paid $31,100 "OUT THE DOOR" with all taxes (Chicago suburbs) for a car that stickers for almost $37K before tax. So, I was as happy as one can be and still withdraw $30k from the bank on an object that only looses its value immeadiatly.....lol (such is life!)

I also purchased an extended warranty, since I typically keep a car for about 7 years or so. I know that everyone has their opinions on this subject but it was something that I wanted to do. However, I did a lot of "shopping" for it using the interned. I contacted about 25 dealers in all parts of the country via e-mail requesting a quote for the Toyota Platinum 0 deductible/6yr/100M warranty. Responses came back almost immeadiatly and I was shocked to discover the range of prices I received. From highest to lowest there was a $750 difference!.......needless to say, I took the least expensive. The transaction was completed over the phone and the papers came from Toyota a couple of weeks later. My dealer wanted $1,500 at the time of the car purchase but I wound up paying only $750 for the policy. I'm happy and feel good that years 5 & 6 will be fully covered and that with 100,000 miles my total warranty will average more than 16,000 miles per year, which is closer to what I actually put on the car.

#650 of 5443 5 spoke wheels by liev

My friend has a 99 ES. It's not a Coach how come she has 5-spoke wheels on her? I think they look good but now I think I prefer the regular wheels because they're Lexus logos

Outstanding price for your Platinum edition! People on this forum back in August were commenting on my price for the VP w/HID. I think you beat me. I'm jealous. ...

With the new model coming out, anyone shopping this spring and summer should be shooting for deals like this.

Terrific price on the ES300. Could you give us the name of the dealership and the salesman that you dealt with? Was this purchase handled in person at the dealership or did you do this over the internet also?

#655 of 5443 $2000 off promotion by spollard1

Thanks to everyone for their responses to my pricing question. I really appreciate it!

dcman2, I'm pretty sure the $2000 off promotion is strictly for the ES300, and it's a discount off the MSRP. As to whether it's national or regional, I don't know. The dealer I visited was Sam Swope in Louisville, KY, which you can access at www.swope.com.

It sounds like everyone's chimed in on what the Coach edition includes, but this page on the lexus site sums everything up: http://www.lexus.com/showroom/model/es_coach.html

rob175, would love to hear more details on how you got your deal, as that price sounds fantastic.

Again, thanks to everyone for their very helpful insights.

To sddlw: I purchased my 2000 ES from Arlington Lexus in Palatine, Illinois last August. I walked in with a copy of a quote from the internet and used that as my "starting point" we went back and forth (very politly).....It might have helped that I was willing to write a check in full at that moment, and that they had exactly the car I wanted...in fact they had 4 of them...(all the same color/edition/options...everything) It was the last day of August and the new ones were comming out very soon.

To Leiv: I did post some notes on my purchase back in August 2000.

The Extended Warranty was purchased from a Lexus Dearlership in Baton Rouge, LA....I'll see if they are listed on the policy...if so I'll follow this note up with the name. But as I said, I just e-mailed a bunch of dealership and made a point to stay away from locations that were in the more expensive parts of the country such as NY & CA.

Nice going rob175.
I too used several internet price quotes, a pre-negotieated price through my local credit union and one through Costco to help with my negotiations. It was well worth the effort. Especially the Costco quote.
