To the best of my knowledge, the free 1K Lexus service involves nothing more than a check of the car to make sure everything is in order. When I brought my 2004 ES-330 in for this service I noticed that all the fluid levels had been topped off and the car meticulously cleaned, but the whole process only took about 1/2 hour--not enough time for both an oil change and wash on a busy day--likewise with the 2002 ES I owned before this one. I wouldn't postpone subsequent 5k visits to the shop, though.

What kind of mpg are you getting with your ES300/ES330? Did you notice a difference in the 2002 vs. the 2004 in the mpg since they have a little different engine? Have you had any trouble with either car? Thanks
#4585 of 5443 Exhaust problems

I used to have a 1997 ES300 - my wife has it now. It has over 150,000 miles on it and has developed a problem.
When starting it up the exhaust is noisy. However, with less than five minutes driving the noise dies down.
My local all-makes repair shop claims it is a hole in the exhaust manifold and wants to replace it. To me (always looking for a cheap way out) the fact that the noise ceases within a few minutes sounds like metal has expanded.
Has anyone any tips or any experience of this? The part they want to replace is the cast part that connects directly onto the engine.

It could be a crack in the exhaust manifold, or somewhere else along the system. Or, it could be a loose connection (cracked weld) between pipes, muffler, catalytic converter, etc. I'd ask the shop to show you the problem - eyeball it - before they fix it. Of course, the car would have to be cold then.

Have a 2004 ES330, appx. 8500 miles. Recently, I have noticed creaking noises in two places - near the glove box and the driver's seat. These are not rattles. The creak near the glove box occurs with the glove box empty and mostly during turns. The driver's seat creak occurs when I sit down in the car. Anyone had similar problems? Have yet to take it to the dealer for these problems.

I had the same problem, although the creaking sound began almost immediately after I purchased the car. Initially the creak seemed to be coming from the dash but was later determined to be coming from the seat and could be heard while accelerating, braking and while turning. The dealers first attempt at fixing the problem was to oil the tracks and underside of the seat, to no avail. Ultimately the entire seat was replaced, only to have the creak come back within a week.
During the service departments weekly teleconference with regional tech people in Atlanta, it was determined that the seat was creaking because of alignment pins that are used to locate the seat properly during assembly. The alignment pins can be easily removed, which took less than ten minutes, and the creaking problem was illuminated. If only the transmission problem could be fixed that easily.

Took my RX300 to dealer for service and got a 02 ES330 as a loaner car. About 15K miles on it. On the way home I found on highway, most noise is the road noise, then wind noise. I often read articles about how quiet Lexus is, and this ES330 noise is rated 9 out od 10, just 1 point below LS430/400 in some magazines. However I found it's quiet overall but not to the 9-point level. 2000 RX300 is rated like 6 point, maybe 2004 RX330 is 7 point. My 00 RX300 is almost as quiet as this 04 ES330. This time I drove the round trip on the same highway between home and the dealer.
I believe some professional tester uses sound meter to measure the dB. Maybe rating is from that dB number, which should be proportional to human's hearing...

#4591 of 5443 A knob in 04 ES330

Can someone tell me what that knob is, the one under the dash/steering wheel, near the right knee? It's got a white mark on it.

I have an 03 with ML. At times when I listen to talk shows I can hear some noise off talker's words like they are speaking too closely to the mic or something. The louder the more obvious. But when listening to music (radio or CD) I don't get any of that no matter how loud it is. It seems to be from one of the teaser speakers on the door. Anyone heard that too.
BTW, jiamin, that knob adjusts how loud the beep sounds when key locks/unlocks the car. RX does not have that? I also drove RX330 as a loaner b4 and I think RX is much more noisy than ES. Just the engine noise along does it. RX300 was quieter than RX330 but still not as quiet as ES300. ES330 has a bigger engine but I doubt it's much more noisy than ES300.
