To all of you considering the new Lexus ES 300. Great car. However, the engine does not match even the base TL. Okay at low speed. When it comes to taking off the engine hesitates. Almost feels like it is straining. Try a 225 or 260 TL-- there is a difference! Looked at a 2 year lease. $519 for Acura $706 for Lexus (Brooklyn, NY dealer). When Lexus puts in a Lexus of a power plant,it may be worth the money over an Acura, let a lone a Camry XLE V6.

I don't think anyone would disagree that more power would be a good thing (as long as price remains relatively constant). I was also disappointed that the ES didn't get a power boost this year. But nothing I know of matches the interior quality of the new ES for <$35K. And an extra 15 or 40 horses wouldn't be enough to put me into a TL(-S) with lower interior quality. I'm pretty sure Lexus will give the ES a power boost in a few years. I would wait if I could, but I need a new car sooner than that. So that's that.

Has anyone seen this color in person on the car? How would you describe it?

My RL has 26K miles on it. It rides/handles like a dream. The BOSE soundsystem seems to creat more sound/bass, but the Mark Levinson seems cleaner/crisp. The RL sucks when it comes to fuel mileage, the ES, they claim will approach the 30's/highway. The RL feels bigger, but not much. The RL also feels heavier.
We like our cars to craddle us when moving down the road, and that is what these cars do. We also have an 01 S2000, which crunches our urge for sport driving, so we expect pampering from both of these cars, and thats exactly what we get.

I saw it last week--starlight pearl--it is a light bluish metallic and very pretty--was disappointed by alabaster metallic but milennium silver is very pretty as well

I'm aware that the ES300 is being shipped in 3 different option configurations. Even so, I assumed that one could still put in a special order for a different combination of the various options listed in Kelley Blue Book as long as a 90 day wait was tolerable. The salesman in Portland, OR told me today, however, that you can't do special orders. For example, he said that the only ways to get the wood steering wheel option is to either get the "High Intensity Discharge Headlamps" option, or the Nav System/ML audio packages. Am I being fed a line,
or is this true? Kelley Blue Book lists several options which are avialable either with a package or individually??

My parents have an '02 ES on order that is not one of the basic configs (ML, no NAV, no HID, heated seats, wood steering wheel, and VSC), so it appears to be possible to order any config.

I have also ordered the 2002 ES 300 and it will take 90 days to receive, at least that is what i have been told. I am hoping to have it by late November. I ordered mine with Mark Levinson (no nav), AVS, HID, and VSC.

My wife and I just took home our newest edition - a Millenium silver, black interior, ML/Nav, 2002 ES 300. We are quite thrilled with the car. Rides like butter and has a wonderful interior. We live in Chicagoland and leased it from McGrath. We paid sticker as our current sedan was on its last legs and we couldn't wait for prices to fall. The car was residualed for 39 mos. at 61% with an MF of .00265. I traded in a 94 Eagle Vision TSI for $1800 and put around $1400 up front for a monthly payment of $602. Just pleased as punch with the whole darn experience. If I got suckered, please don't tell me....I want to believe I did it right!!! For those waiting, it's worth it and for those still undecided, go for it.....you won't be sorry.

gdb55-I am in portland, OR too and believe the info you got is inaccurate
mrzinj-there is no price value of the joy this car is giving you--congrats--you will love the car
all-again the only restriction kelly blue book site tells is that you cannot get avs unless you order BOTH nav and ML
