Also glad to see that the XG350 board is active- wish it were more so.; perhaps owners are enjoying their XG350's rather than reporting "issues"..;-> Hope so.
As regards your two points:
1) From extensive review of multiple Hyundai forums and usenet, batteries are a known issue throughout model lines. So much so that it has been reported Hyundai switched their OEM to a provider of better quality/reliability. Best info I have is that this occurred about 15-18 months ago.
a) Directly from Hyundai's warranty specs-
"Battery: 3 years / unlimited miles (100% covered 2 years / unlimited miles; after 2 years and within 3 years, 25% cost of battery and 100% labor cost covered)"
b) so, depending on your actual date of purchase you may be 100% AOK; or at the very most- paying 75% of parts cost for battery only..
2) Rotors on all XG350's were increased AFTER the 2002 MY to specfically address problems of wear/warpage (size increased from 10.5 to 12 in.)

I also just purchased a XG350 this past week. I did not want the 350L version, as heated seats are not needed here in Florida and my wives car has a moon roof and I do not think we have ever opened it. So we saved over $1000. I paid for my XG $19,400 which included floor mats and rear mud guards. With Sales tax, title the total out the door price was $20,750 I know the L version lists for about $1500 more, so I would say you are in the ballpark. The most annoying thing I have discovered so far is there is no brightener for the air conditioning panel lights or the radio lights.---If you know how to brighten these, I would appreciate some help. I have the main dimmer turned up to max but the bright sun here in Florida is too much. The only solution that I can think of is to get windows tinted??? The only other situation was the garage door opener in the miror can not be set as I was told it will not set to garage doors older than 1987 After dealer tried to set for over an hour!--Mine is original from 1978 still--This is not a big deal but would have been nice.

Hi gsenft, I wish I could tell you there is an additonal dial to turn the lights brighter on the ac and radio but I haven`t found one either, my 350L comes with tinted windows and yet the ac and radio lights are hard to read at times on an especially sunny day, are you telling me that on your 350 it is not a standard item to have the windows tinted from the factory, I thought all cars had tinted windows nowdays. I do know that the tinting you can buy from detail shops as after market purchases is extremely shaded and may be the answer for you. Sorry to hear about your garage door opener, that sucks, if it was me I would buy a new opener, they can be had for as little as app. $130.00, it would be well worth it, I programed mine and it works fine, but my opener is not that old, I have two other vehicles and they both have their own remote so this worked out perfectly. Subracting the sales price on your car and I think you got a great price, with sales tax on mine it was $23,266.00, I also got the $800.00 extended warranty for 10 years bumper to bumper, it may come in handy as we don`t get new vehicles that often. I put about 60 highway miles on mine today and I felt like I was driving a $70,000 Lexus430, this car is unreal for the price,(so far, keeping my fingers crossed) Take care, Phil

Congratualtions also on your new XG350L purchase. Unfortunate result regarding your garage door opener-Homelink incompatibility. To put things in perspective on the opener "issue":
1) Your garage door opener is +26 years old! Considering that period of history- don't (I wouldn't) expect any "remote" based component to be compatible. This was pre-wireless, pre-cellular, pre-FCC bandwidth re-allocation, almost pre solid-state, etc.
2) Surprised that the Hyundai-Homelink system would be compatible with systems +18 years ago. Great! My expectation would have been 10 years or less...
Enjoy you new XG3560L....

The way I read the maintenance charts ---the 60,000 applies only to California. Regular replacement is over 100K

I had to write and tell you that the garage door opener(Homelink) is now working. I called the Homelink 800 number that was in owners manual. They said that based on my serial and model Number it should work---just put a new battery in remote and program---took about 10 seconds. Yes, all the windows are tinted but need to be a lot darker here in Florida to read the controls---I can see them perfectly when I start up in garage--so I just make sure everything is set right before I pull out. The extended warranty price you got is great! My dealer wanted $1200 but $800 would have been tempting!---I think the dealer said I can still purchase up until I have 5000 miles on car? I also usually keep my cars fairly long in fact I did not need this car but my son-Out of college about a year or 2 now wants my 1996 Crown Vic with around 90000 miles. He paid $300 for his car that looks like a $300 car-- What you do for Family!!!--Its like new--BUT I do like the XG and especially its pep.-George

Happy that that you got the results, through persistence/perseverance- simply amazing!
As regards the lighting for the center dash components- many, many comments and complaints to Hyundai about this. Particularly the Trip Computer's visibility in bright daylight (difficult at best..).
From other Hyundai forum postings (and pictures) the XG is being remodeled/restyled for the 2006 MY. This includes a completely different center Console look with embedded NAV system as well..
Again, good show on your positive opening (and closing) result...

Hi George, that is purely amazing that you were able to get your garage door opener to work seeing as it is that old. If I were you I would check the local detail shops and find out the cost of adding window tinting to the sides and back, there is a law here and I suppose there is one there also that prohibits one from adding too much to the windshield. I`m retired and do not need to use the car on a daily basis, if I did I may be going to a detail shop myself, I live in West Virginia and we don`t have the bright sun as often as you Floridians do. I bet if you tell the dealer you will only pay $800.00 for the extended warranty he will accept it, you could use me as an example. Take care, Phil

Same laws here on tinting but not enforced from what I have read, I also am retired and probably only take my car out a couple of times a week ---we alternate between my wifes Camry and my car. I might check on the extended warranty---Is it the same as the bumper to bumber(5-60) or are they exceptions???I always worry about a/c here in Florida as I had one replaced years ago at $1000 plus.

Hi gsenft, I was told the extended warranty was bumper to bumper but I haven`t received the contract yet for the warranty, they said I should receive it within 45 days, I`m guessing now since I have already paid for it and read some on the current warranty where there are some exceptions, there will be some exceptions on it too. I will let you know when I receive it and have read it. I can understand your concern about not having ac in your car living in Florida, I have been there in the summer and it is ugly without ac. We originally bought this car to replace my wife`s 93 Lexus ES300 when she retires in about a year, now she says, two weeks later, she never wants to give up her Lexus and she wants to be buried in it, ha,ha, WOMEN, can`t live with em and can`t live without em, I guess its my car now which is ok with me because it is a great car and good looking also, I got the titanium silver with black interior. Now I have two vehicles, anyone you know want to buy a 95 Toyota 4-runner, ha,ha. Take care, Phil
