What is this discussion about?

#1113 of 3081 Does any one got a better deal?
Jun 26, 2003 (7:44 pm)
I just got a New Black 2003 Volvo S60 2.4 M 4dr Sedan for $19,735. Is this a good deal?
The only thing I did not like of the transaction was the Volvo's policy of no inmediate delivery due to mandatory inspection (Quality Control or something like that) Blah Blah blah. I don't know about you guys, but I think that most people would like to take their new machine home the same day, or not? For me was very very very dessapointing to know that I have to wait a couple of more days to get my car. Is this a Volvo new Policy / practice? Or there is something "fishy" and thats why I am getting such a huge discount?

so is this a completely base model? no options at all? That's $6K below invoice! I guess I'd be suspicious, knowing me. Edmunds TMV is $22K. But maybe their info. isn't updated. Could be lots of dealer money on this to get rid of it.
#1115 of 3081 Yes a $27,055 MRSP for $19,735
Jun 27, 2003 (6:32 am)
Here in Sactown the 2 Volvo dealers had huge discounts prices for 3 weeks (ended last week) for their 03 Models. I guess it was national. $6K under the MRSP. But I got another $1.3K due to a Dealer Internet Manager mistake. Well
..thats what they are saying.
I told the guy (via email) that my budget was only $21.5K for everything (Car, tax and registration). This is what I wrote:
"Thanks, but I think I am a little bit short on cash. I just have $21,500 to cover everything. I had $2K more this morning but an unexpected home expense was waiting for me. There is some serious house remodeling going on in my house. And I don't want to borrow more $$$.
Thanks again, maybe another day."
And he replied with this email:
I spoke with our Volvo manager and we can do your $21,500 out the door how soon can you get down here to complete this deal, please call me at 421-3400 ask for me ... my name is Toby I will be in till 7 pm.Or email me your phone #.
The problem (apparently my luck) was that the Dealer manager misunderstood everything and he thought that I was asking $21.5K for the car. But because the Fleet/internet Manager's E mail, they had to Honor the offer.
I don't know! Everyone at the dealer was surprised about the deal. In matter of fact, 3 salesmen and the warranty guy told me that not even they could get that discount. A well orchestrated act? I don't know, but I am suspicious.
What about the 2 days I have to wait to get my car due to the quality inspection blah blah blah? Is that a Volvo practice for NEW cars sales?

If the car had never been PDI'd (Pre-Delivery Inspection), then they would want to do it. However, two days is a bit much. The whole process can be completed in about 2 to 4 hours. If you closed your deal in the afternoon, then picking the car up the next day would be reasonable. Did you get any dealer-added options? Maybe they were in such a state of shock over the mistake in pricing that the owner wanted to check with his attorney to see if he could get out of the deal.

I went into my dealer today to look into a 2004 S60 AWD. He had a 2003 S60 T5 loaded with every option/package including navigation (which I don't really want) and on call. List was $42,800, mine for $35,400. Good deal?

Volvo has a $4000 dealer incentive until 6/30 on most 2003 models. I don't think you'll get a better deal.
#1119 of 3081 S60 R Automatic?
Jun 29, 2003 (7:04 pm)
Has anyone driven a S60 R automatic? If driven a S60 R manual but have to get an automatic. I'm concerned about how much impact the automatic will have because the torque on the automatic is lower. I've never owned a Volvo, so I don't know how their automatics perform. Also, does it have a good sport shift feature? I'd be interested in hearing about acceleration and response times.
The "R" was very impressive. I'm shopping between the R, BMW 330i, Infiniti G35 sedan, and the Mercedes C320 Sport. Man, it's very close. The "R" had a little bit too much front-drive feeling to me in regular driving, but otherwise it was great. Turning diameter was enormous (42'!), another problem because our area requires a lot of U turns.
I can't tell you which car is best right not because each has so many good points! The "R" manual was nice, gear selector was very good, brakes were awesome. Didn't get to really check out the different suspension settings as much as I would have liked. I did take it through some very demanding twisties on Sport and Advanced. Both were good runs. Can't remember how good or bad steering feel was though. Too much to take in at once! I didn't expect to be so impressed.
#1120 of 3081 2003 Volvo S60 2.4T problems!!
Jul 02, 2003 (8:33 am)
Good morning all!
I thought I would give everyone an update on the issues I have with my 2003 Volvo S60 2.4T. I finally got into the dealership yesterday about the following issues.
1. Transmission jerks when shifting between first and second and second and third. To the point that you head jerks against the headrests. This is when you are driving at slower speeds, like between stop lights. Also, it tends to hesitate off the line and during the same slower acceleration speeds. Well, they tell me that they "all do it" and that there is nothing that can be done!!
2. When the a/c compressor kicks in it makes a rattling sound that is loud enough to be heard over talk radio! Once again they tell me that they "all do it" and there is nothing that they can do.
3. I mentioned to them that I already have creaking sounds in the car and that it seems to be very noisy when driving. I tend to hear the engine buzzing at lower revs rather than a hum like most. You can guess what they said.
4. I have once again having a steering issue now where you have to hold the wheel to the left when accelerating at slower speeds. It tracks straight, just on the line you have to hold it or loose it! They "forgot" to check it but I suspect that they felt it was normal.
Anyway, these are repeated issues that I have had on my car of only 5800 miles since November. My next step is to start climbing the ladder in the dealership, already to the service mgr who tells me there is nothing he can do. They tell me that they will bring it up to the Volvo field tech next time he is in whenver that is. I am tired of this already and am going to be proactive on getting this resolved. I am very frustrated and contrary to the raves I see on this post about how wonderful of a product Volvo is, I am not at all pleased.
So, any suggestions or comments of what I should do and if anyone has had similar experiences either with their S60 or another model, let me know! Thanks!

do you only have one dealership accessible to you?
Just a general point (and nothing personal towards the above poster), but I find it odd when people get so mad at one service department but always seem to deal with the same person and dealership and never do anything more about it. My wife works with a girl who is having major issues with her Prelude. She repeatedly goes back to the same dealership and gets no satisfaction. She also has said "well, next time I'll.... " C'mon! If I get turned away just once at a dealership when I KNOW something is wrong with my vehicle, I take my business elsewhere.
Let me put it this way, when you stick your finger in an electrical socket and get zapped, do you keep sticking your finger in that socket thinking things might change??
#1122 of 3081 Volvo S60 2.4T follow-up - another dealership?
Jul 02, 2003 (12:30 pm)
Hi! Good idea to post 1121, but my issue is that though I have several Volvo dealers in my market, they aren't at all convenient to get to. As anyone who lives here in Atlanta would tell you, traffic in this town is horrible and already I am fighting it just to get to the dealer that I bought it from. I suppose, that might be a good next step though, I agree.
My big question is to those who own this product, is this normal for this model? If so, is this normal for Volvo?
