You are in the Lexus LS 400/LS 430
What is this discussion about?

You owners have been too nice to Lexus, you are all so understanding. I think we could show them a thing or two..we get one copy of Nav 2002 and by now someone has a DVD burner...and we pirate something we should have all gotten for free.
Truly a great car but obviously management is out of touch with its loyal and revering owners.
I have had my LS 430 Ultra for 11 months and have 14,000 miles...not a single problem. I have never used the Lexus Link and unless someone convinces me , I plan to de-activate it at the end of my one year of ownership.

Think of Lexus Link as an insurance policy. You never know when you might need it.
In case you were referring to the concierge service, then I agree; probably not worth the money. But the basic service, which is pretty inexpensive, is a nice feature in an emergency.

I have had my LS 430 for one month. Because of the advise that I received from some of you folks, I got the NAV/ML. I am very happy with both. They are all that you suggested that they would be.....and more. In view of your comments and the fact that I just reached 1000 miles I took my car in today and talked to them about the DVD. I checked my version and it showed that I had 2001 v. 1. When I asked about that I was told that if I had the version that had the French option and it included Canada then I had the latest version......up until the one that has just come out. It should be ready in the next month and the cost is $499. I was told that I would get that version at no cost but future ones would be at a cost. They said that they thought that future versions should be at a lesser figure.
Hope that this clears up things a little. My dealer is just great and is located in Ft. Myers.

The insurance aspect of Link was appealing to me, but the thought of having that twit announce "Lexus Link is Active" or whatever every time I turned the key was more than I could stand. I waited until the dealer had one with ML and w/o Link and saved a bit of money. Doesn't this annoy the rest of you?

Per my original post on this subject, Lexus corporate has agreed to give me the new update at no charge. It's on order and should be here by Thursday (Apr 25). I encourage everyone to call corporate (800-255-3987 option 4) and speak to Kevin Salin. He is the person I have been speaking to on this matter. I told him that I was happy that they have decided to give me this update at no charge because of my "Lexus loyalty", but that they need to look at the bigger picture of how this will effect customer service.
When I get the new DVD I'll post any noticeable changes. I do have a DVD burner and will see how easy it is to make a copy (for backup purposes...of course).
But once again, I do encourage everyone to call corporate on this matter and let them know that we don't like being "nickel and dimed" to death. While you are on the phone with them, you might want to also mention the cell phone fiasco. Remember, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Drcomputer -- thanks for the good information and I look forward to hearing about what you find different with the new DVD. Are you upgrading from a 2001 or a 2002 LS430? are you going to do a self install? If so do you know how? I was told when I called the 800 number that the DVD was only available for 2001 owners -- I wonder if that is because their isn't enough of a difference in the data to justify selling it to 2002 owners or if they just don't want all the streaming customers that just bought a new car and found out that the data is already obsolete. they also told me that it was not a free upgrade but I decided not to push it since they said that the 2002 upgrade would not be available till Oct. If you are looking for a some one to try the disk on a 2002 I'll give it a try for you -- email me at bill.amail.com. thanks

Big thanks to drcomputer!! I'm going to call Kevin at Lexus headquarters this week and will post the results of my conversation with him on this site. Stay tuned gang...more to follow.
If we all make a call, maybe Lexus will be more proactive with the dealers so they can effectively deal with situations like this.

I got a quote for a ML/Nav 2002 car for 54,800. Can someone tell me if this is a good buy.
