They are very good cars and often can go well past 120,000 miles trouble-free. They need to be serviced properly, especially the S model. The S model must have premium fuel. The 60,000 mile service is important. For all the people on forums who complain, there are many more happy owners, some of whom still look for low mileage examples when it is time to trade. I owned two of them and had no regrets. However, technology has moved on and they are hardly state of the art anymore.

Someone got a real deal on purchasing my second one from the dealer. It needed O2 sensors and all 60K work. Millenium Edition that sold with 59,000 miles for less than $7,000 (I believe the asking price was like 10K). The dealer did all the service, and the purchaser got a vehicle that was like new.

You likely paid more for the car than you needed to (KBB and even Edmunds list inflated values for these cars, compared for what they are really selling for). You may have been happier with the non-S model, which is just as pretty. I recommend a person buy one either from a Mazda dealer (they will have done the required service), or from someone who has all the service records. O2 sensors will be pricey from a dealer. Shop around for parts.

Tuition in the school of life stuff: it is easy enough to turn off the check engine light without fixing the underlying problem. Running a computer check through Autozone for example might give you a better idea of whether there are any error codes stored on a car you are considering. As for price, a good check is to see what similar models have sold for on eBay.

You need to evaluate repair costs and overall condition. It may be cheaper for you to bring the car up to optimum condition, or it may be cheaper to dump it now. All depends. Has it had the 60,000 tuneup and timing belt change? Is it using any fluids? Any leaks at all? The steering wheel doesn't matter that much...it's mostly for show. Set it where you want it, and then turn the auto feature off most of the time. Less stress on the steering column motor, and the feature will last longer.

My LED-type light is out that displays on the dash the time, thermostat and
AC settings. I checked the fuse and its okay. Any ideas on how to fix it myself
or is a shop going to have to do it?

Thanks,
Tom

Im not sure if it has had the 60K services when I purchased the car it had 88K, The dealer is paying for th sensor repairs. However one place meineke to be exact told me I need manifolds, and a converter if they a diffrent, the dealers repairman said that I needed all 4 o2 sensors and new axles which I was told by both he said my manifolds were fine, I guesiing the tcs off light has to do with the faulty o2 sensors.

2000 Millenia Check engine Light/P0105 error code by taxijack

I have a 2000 Mazda Millenia and love it. I have read the site looking for a fix to my problem but haven't seen alot on my error codes. The darn check engine light is on and has been on for about 6 months now. The car has been running fine until late last week. I took the Mazda into the shop because now it is running ruff when I stop at a light. I do here a vacum leak at top of engine now. While at the shop they read the codes P0105 MAP/BORO Circuit Malfunction and also P0300 Multi Cyl Malfunction/misfire Detected. Not sure what I need to do to get this fixed. say that because I am with the Military overseas adn there is no Mazda dealers over here. What parts would I need to order to get someone to fix it. Would a MAP/Boro sensor fix the one problem.

Also another question about Check Engine Light. How do I get rid of that. Would the replacement of the 4 sensor help. I read alot on site were some people have replaced one or two sensor to fix. With me being oversea I tought maybe replace all four at same time since I don't have a dealer to go to. Any ideas

99 millenia s oil leak by 99kj_owner

I have a 1999 Millenia with the Miller cycle KJ engine. I have removed the left timing belt cover and traced a engine oil leak to where the left front of the cylinder head cover mates with the left cylinder head at the very front of the engine (front being where the timing belt is). It looks like a small part of the cylinder head has broken and shifted. There is 74,000 miles on the engine and it runs perfectly. It seems the only function of the broken piece is to provide a surface for the gasket to seal against. I would need to cut a hole in the fender well with a hole saw to take a picture which I have not done .

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Not a car expert, but I had a recent similar problem. Bogged down trying to get rolling, but a lighter touch on the pedal got it rolling and then it cruised fine. It was as simple as the air intake from the air filter had come loose and way too much air was being sucked in.

CEL and RPM fluctuation by gr8trfool

I was trying to follow some of the discussions and threads regarding this topic, but my issue seems slightly different. I have a 95 Millenia, original owner with 121,000 miles. In the last few months, it has started to have an issue at about 1750-2000 RPM when driving, The car has a slight resistance with the RPM dropping slightly like an engine brake, then it releases and the RPM pops up to normal. Generally, a number of days late I will then have the CEL come on. When this happens, the car then idles rough and accelerates rough/sluggishly. I think the code always points to a mis-fire on Cylinder #1, but thats just a symptom I think. I have replaced plugs, wires, distributor cap, EGR, injector on cyl 1, but hasn't permanently solved the issue. I did find a vacuum hose coming off what I think (appears) to be the EGR solenoid disconnected, but it makes no difference whether in place or not.

2000 Mazda Millenia catalytic converter replacement by kindasimpl

Our 2000 is giving off codes PO300 and PO431. From my research it indicates the catalytic converter as the O2 sensor going would not trigger the 431 code also.

I found several on-line as a replacement but don't know which to choose. Also can a "small town" mechanic do the job or do I need to take it into the city? Is there anything else I should go ahead and replace at the same time; Oxygen Sensor, etc.?
