The Acord also has a higher figure than Camry: 1.68 dead drivers compared to 1 for Camry per million registered miles. The injury rates were not mentioned but you can imagine for yourself! Read post #1850: In this measure, the Camry is rated the best among all sedans, even besting the Volvo 850. Compared to the Camry's Drivers' Death Rate normalized as 1, rates in other cars are higher: Nissan Maxima 1.32, Mercedez C-Class 1.40, Mazda 626 1.59, Accord 1.68, Altima 2.11, Avalon 2.16...

Not to mention the differences in driver's ages. I'll save you the trouble of imagining or looking it up - the stats are derived from 1994-1997 model year cars - 2.9 million Accords vs. only 355,158 Camrys (with a higher statistical margin for error noted). The IIHS report notes that there are many factors which can skew the stats. The authors also note many inconsistencies in their own data. But thanks, peterpan, for your ominous warning.

Stay away from Driver Death rates. Way too many variables that can't be isolated. ~alpha

More value for your money is a pretty good braggin right. A comparable Accord was around $2500 more than the Camry when I was out shopping. That's nothing to sneeze at. And if that's a result of "Toyota wanting to be #1," well...who cares? Consumers benefit. |

| I do not believe there is a big difference currently in purchase price. You can probably get an Accord LX auto for around $18,500. Can you get a Camry LE auto w/side airbags for much less ? The invoices are almost identical. | |

There is no reason to believe car's safety trends would not continue in newer models. Perhaps you can produce better stats than criticising the only stats thus far on safety! |

I've noticed a few mistakes in indicating what a Camry does not have. I guess it depends on which model you are talking about. I'm picking up my 2005 XLE 4cyl on Saturday. It DOES have the following: * Lighted vanity mirrors (with dimmer) * Auto up window (I tried it out) * Back seat pockets * Lighted controls for locks, windows, etc * I believe, but am not positive that it has folding mirrors as well. Just wanted to clarify that the Camry does have those nice options.
