Accord has 102.7(DX,LX)/97.7(EX) cubic feet interior volume while Camry has only 101.8(all trims) cubic feet! Depends on which trim you are talking about, Accord can be bigger than Camry and Camry can be bigger than Accord! In terms of fuel economy, both with automatic L4 Cylinder, they have identical fuel economy (24/34)! But for manual, accord has better fuel economy (26/34) while camry get only (24/33) In terms of safety, accord wins! Lower chance of rollover, better Static Stability Factor, Standard Front Side Airbags and Side curtain airbags. NHTSA does not have the data for 2005 camry Front impact. Accord did better on side crash with SAB and SCAB, while camry was tested without it! Just keep this in mind, both of them are great cars. However, they both have their weaknesses (almost everything in the world is not perfect)! IMHO, try/get the car that fits you the best! |

Replying to: bamacar (Jan 11, 2005 11:36 am) mileage on the 05 camry is better than the 03 accord. i am talking about actual mileage that i am getting. the transmission seems to be geared lower so that i get better mileage over the same commute. "epa estimates" aside i am getting 4 more miles per gallon right now. the cup holders are better in the camry. they are covered when not in use. they also have a holder bar that flips up out of the way to make the cupholder a rectangular storage area, with a cover. the arm rest is bigger and more accessible to driver/passenger sharing it. the door locks are better. the accord has them on the top of the door. riding with your elbow on the window sill puts that button right in your elbow. the camry has a automatic locking feature that is locks the doors when you shift into gear. the door unlocks when you open it, not after you unlock it and then open it like the accord. it is just better design. don't believe the hogwash on the trunk. the accord trunk has a shorter lid and the rear seat folds down as one piece. the camry has a larger trunk and the seats fold down independently and conveniently. try to fold down the seat in the accord. you have to insert the mega-key into a lock in the rear deck. not a good design. i've owned both. camry is better. of course this is jmho...but true. the |

Replying to: lmkwin (Jan 11, 2005 6:46 pm) I'm glad you like your Camry but there are many of us here that vastly prefer the Accord. The two cars are very close and each car has some things that the other car doesn't. I've driven the 4 and 6-cylinder versions of both cars and liked the V6 Accord the best. Which car is "better" is a matter of personal preference and entirely subjective. |

Looking at both cars to buy a 4cyl auto. Noticed these differences: Camry has the following, Accord doesnt; -outside temp. guage. why does honda cheap out here? -power drivers seat. ditto -larger trunk - full size spare - longer powertrain warranty - middle rear headrest Accord has, Camry doesnt: -standard head airbags (available on camry)kudos to honda -lighted vanity mirrors -backseat pocket The camry rides softer, quieter. The accord handles better. Looks are subjective. Tough choice. I currently have a 99 camry with 171k miles. I may choose Accord just for a change. Both good cars.

I paid $84 and installed it myself. I thread my car in and out of a tight garage every day and I'm glad my mirrors will fold in the one out of a thousand times that I misjudge the clearance. In a Camry, a mistake like that would mean a trip to the body shop and maybe a house repair too. Sure I could just be extra careful but over the life of the car I'd have to be extra careful more than six thousand times. Not a deal-breaker for the Camry but still another plus for the Accord, no? Also, the Camry doesn't lack an auto-up driver's window because Toyota didn't think of it. Rather, Toyota wanted to avoid the expense of the necessary auto-reversing safety mechanism. Personally, I find the cost-cutting more evident on the Camry than I do on the Accord.

A couple of days ago I had the opportunity to sit in a 03-04? Camry SE. It was a nice car. Seemed very well put together with nice materials. But nothing in that car said "let's go for a spin". It was just there. Nice car, but kinda "so what" for my tastes. Admittedly, the last Camry I test drove was a 02 LE automatic and it was a nice ride. However, it was not a car I would be happy with nor would I look forward to driving it. I am on my third 03+ Accord and they have all been terrific cars. My latest is a 04 EX-L manual sedan. Incredible interior, terrific engine, best-in-class manual transmission, great gas mileage, fun-to-drive, etc are all descriptions of what my Accord is to ME. Someone else might feel differently. That't the beauty of a free market. YOu can choose something different. Heck, some people buy Azteks and love them. As far as the Camry being the best seller in the US so it must be better logic ... the Camry has a much higher number of fleet sales. I have already seen $1500 rebates offered on 05 Camrys along with low finance rates. I have yet to see a cash rebate offer on the Accord. So maybe a lot of people on the edge opt for the Camry because Toyota (in their quest to be #1) is willing to pay more for the "best-selling car" title. I guess Camry owners on Edmunds do need at least one bragging right though. |
