it seems to me that everyone has the same problem with the "service engine check"( when the light it's on).
my case it's as follows:
last saturday my mom trried to go to another city. from san diego to within the border of calexico. she used my car( the one with the title). half way the car automatically stop( it turned off by itself), and the temperature of the car went up( not until the top point, but more of the normal temperature). my mom could not start the car until a few minutes later( the famous check engine light turned on). she had to came back home. now when i took it to the mechanic on monday( did not move it for the weekend), he said that it was probably because i did not make the service for the car on time( tune up). he did all the service and all check the termostat( it was all creacky, burned). the light was off again and everything looked perfect. Now, yesterday my mom used the car again and before she entered the freeway, the check engine light turned on again and the car again turned off by it self , "again". i try to take the car with the mechanic this morning but he wasnot there, i am going to take tomorrow morning. now , this morning when i took the car to the mechanic, i wait a few minutes to let the car warm before going with the specialist. while parked , i felt like little jumping from the car( only when it's in parking shift, forgot my car is automatic).
another thing is that the stereo light( the one where you can see the station or the time)sometime it's on and sometimes it's off.

1)my question is , can this be one reason why the car it's stoping sometimes in the middle of nowhere(n the stereo light)
2)i also thought about the jumping thing from the car(only when it's in parking); does this mean i need to send it to a fuel injection cleaner( another mechanic i guess)

please some help? it will be very helfull to hear a second opinion from you guys before speding major quantities of money in thing that will probably won't need of would just leave the car in the same way it's right now.
see ya.

A Nissan service bulleting says that it can often be removed by using a shopvac to suck it out of the tube.

http://www.infinitihelp.com/Ownership/Bulletins/Nissan/2004/NTB04-140.htm

That brought it closer for me, but it did not get it out.

I used an unsharpened pencil with a drop of superglue on the end to bring the dipstick up as high as it would go (pulled it hard and fast). It stopped and the pencil broke free, but it stayed put about an inch or so from the tope of the diptube. I was then able to drill a small hole into the plastic so that I could then turn a deck screw (or drywall screw or any other type of self-tapping screw) into the plastic a couple of turns. The screw held on well enough that I could pull it out the rest of the way.

The dealer wanted $275 to drop the oil pan. He acted like he had not even heard of the Tech service bulletin. (I think he had). Or else he was going to pull it out like I did and charge me for the oilpan removal. He said the dipsticks did not break that often, but the parts counter man said that a lot of people are buying replacements because they have borken dipsticks.

The said part is that they sell you the same cheapo dipstick....no improvement!

I have a 2004 sentra and the service engine light comes on 10 K, isnt this light related to the general service intervals designed into the ecu system. if so how do u reset it after u have DIY oil change etc.

I have a 1996 sentra that stopped running while I was turning left. It shuddered and shook and then the warning lights all came on (brake, oil, check engine, etc ... ). To get it to the mechanic, whenever we were stopped, we put the car in neutral and stepped on the accelerator to keep the engine running. The mechanic ran diagnostics. It turns out it was the EGR valve. He replaced the valve it is fine. The valve cost around $200 to replace.
The valve is about the size of a cup.

Hope this helps.

#1821 of 2065 1995 Nissan 200SX SE AC problem by baylenthesky

Hi all, I know this is a Sentra forum, but I did not get any reply from the 200SX forum, besides, my car is essentially a Sentra .
Anyway, the problem is with a bad resistor, I could replace it myself, but I have no idea where it is located. I was advised that it should be somewhere underneath the glove compartment, but when I looked underneath I saw several bolts that I don't know which is which. Would the resistor be behind something or would it be directly in view? Thanks!

You might also post in our Got a Quick, Technical Question? discussion - I'll bet someone there will have a suggestion.

This problem just happened to me 20 minutes ago at an oil change place. they could not get the dipstick out of the tube however, and they had to take the entire tube out in order to get the dipstick. Now I have to replace the tube and the dipstick. My concern is, did taking the tube out cause any permanent damage? Can the tube be replaced? How safe is driving the car without a dipstick in the tube? Thanks...I'm stressing!!!

#1824 of 2065 Something good to say about sentra by jtrik

Okay, having read this Sentra forum i feel i need to relay a good experience so far with the 05 Sentra. My car was totaled one night so i needed a new one. The insurance company was nice enough to loan me an 05 Sentra Auto. When i was looking for a car, test everything. Focus, Mazda3, Corolla, Civic, Scion Xb, Cobalt...never gave the Sentra a thought. Why? I was driving it now and frankly it just did it's business, no fuss no problems. But that was it...Focus in the trim i liked was a little out of the price range i wanted to spend, didn't like the lower models. Civic's stearing made me think of the old 79 LTD i had in college...Scion Xb was neat but i thouhgt i looked dumb in one. Corolla did nothing for me. Mazda3 was way out of my range...but i had the Sentra now, it wasn't offensive, the automatic was blah...but no complaints nothing...So i enter the Nissan dealership and i test drove the 5 speed manual and it was the Special Edition package...the stereo system was outstanding. There was actual peppiness coming out of the 5 speed...what the hey, the dealer gave me a fantastic price and i'm paying a little less than 200 a month...Sold. This car now has 5000 miles, no rattles, squeaks, hums...bumpers still intact as well as the dipstick...i do my own maintainence on my cars. I tend to keep cars well passed their due date this way.
I've been averaging 36 mpg hwy and about 32 city with the airconditioner on. The stereo keeps me wholly entertained. I have read that the styling is outdated the dash is boring, not powerful enough...maybe true, but the darn thing is not boring. It is peppy, and not boy racerish...who'd a thunk it? I actually like this little red car...so far so good...i'll keep you updated around 10K miles...

#1825 of 2065 2001 Sentra GXE - Buying a 2005 by tlwcpa

Aug 16, 2005 (11:43 am)

I purchased a 2001 Sentra GXE 5-speed in April 2001. It currently has 86,000 miles on it and my son is about to take it off to college. At purchase, I got an extended warranty to 100,000 miles for it, but have yet to use it. I have done nothing but routine maintenance on the car. The Sentra is not glamorous, but it is well-equipped for the money and gets me around just fine. The dealer has also been great to work with.
My only criticism of the car is that I think the highway fuel economy could be higher if the 5th gear were geared more for economy than for power. (My mother has a similar automatic which runs at lower RPM's at higher speeds than my 5-speed.) However, if performance is your concern, it is hard to argue with a car which you almost never have to shift down to climb hills.
I have just finished shopping for a replacement vehicle. I seriously considered a Corolla and Civic. I have opted for another Sentra, even though it is a bit outdated and a bit smaller on the inside than the Honda and Toyota. For $13,000, I got the 2005 Sentra 1.8S 5-speed with the Special Edition package (Rockford Fosgate 300 Watt AM/FM/6 CD changer 9 speaker with subwoofer, 16" alloy wheels, fog lights, rear spoiler, etc.) and some miscellaneous options. I couldn't justify paying 25% more for a Honda or Toyota especially since I couldn't find either in a 5 speed at the end of the model year. For the price and features, I don't think the Sentra can be beat.
